Summer Movie Blockbusters

We got Superman coming up for action/sci fi which should be good
X-Men is heading out and was meh but the action was good
Looking forward to Nacho Libre for my comedy fix

Can't think of any others. Are we going to have a dull summer movie season?

Edit: Anything from Will Smith this year?

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Click (which is actually pretty good)
A Scanner Darkly (looks interesting)
Miami Vice
Snakes on a Plane
Clerks 2

Should be a pretty good summer actually.

I think Miami Vice and Clerks 2 are going to be let downs. A scanner darkly is going to be good since it has a different look to it. Snakes on a Plane I have no idea what to expect except for snakes on a plane.

Out of those movies, only Click and (I think) Snakes on a Plane are not based on previous material. Wow, the movie industry is falling fast.

What was a Scanner Darkly based on?

Almost every movie is based on some earlier work (or influenced at least) be it a book, TV show, comic etc....

Don't forget that Cars comes out today.

I gotta say, I've had about all the cutesy CGI characters movies I can stomach at this point.

Well, whether you can't stand the movie or not...it is looking like it is going to easily hit blockbuster status.

INCONCEIVABLE!!

I dunno..Cars looks "meh" to me. i'll wait til dvd. After the disappointment of x3..i'm going to not get too excited about Pirates of the Caribbean...although I don't see how they could go wrong with Johnny Depp. heh.

I actually want to see Cars.

But I'm looking forward to :
Pirates of the Caribbean 2
Clerks 2
and probably A Scanner Darkly

I've never been terribly impressed with Jack Black. His movies will grow on me more after I've watched them a few times, but I don't feel like going to see Nacho Libre. I'll just borrow the DVD from a friend or watch it on the movie channels on TV when it gets there.

Philip K Dick novel. It's good, I'm in the middle of it.

I have a feeling PotC2 is going to be another X3. Not awful, but lacking any of the charm that made the first one such a success.

Interesting tidbit: A friend of my sisters actually lived on a 'tall ship' that was used in the filming of Pirates of the Caribbean 2. The ship is basically for movies at this point, but they actually sailed the thing up and down the atlantic coast for several months. Apparantly its a huge pain in the ass to do and a lot of work. The best part is though, the boat was also featured in a certain OTHER pirate film that recently came out...one with a distinctly more adult theme. My sisters friend makes a brief appearance in the background as an extra. 😛

Pixar has set incredibly high standards after Toy Story, Monsters Inc and Finding Nemo. I thought the Incredibles was fantastic once the action got going. I'm not really sure how Cars is going to turn out....the bar has been set so high already.

However, I've got a 4-year old son, niece and nephew who are nothing but excited about Cars. That means 8 tickets sold in order to take 3 kids.

May that be the case. Then the work Pixar is above the law. The name alone is worth 250 million at the box office.

Pixar and John Lasseter are above the law, but their box office performance speaks for itself. There is a good reason Lasseter has been given basically free reign now over Disney's animation department (which has struggled badly for the last 10 years) as well as Pixar and only answers to Bob Iger.
