Summer job ideas?

I'm 18, gong to graduate in May of this year, so I'm looking for ajob to make some spending money before I head off to college. I've worked at restauraunts - Dickey's Barbeue, Smoothie King; I've worked running the scoreboard for 3rd graders basketball games, and I worked at a movie theater (mainly doing concessions, but other stuff too) last summer. No "real jobs" yet. I'd like to do something that pays reasonably ($9+/hr?) and something inside (its 100 degrees day in day out in Dallas). Also something that could be full time/very near FT so I can make some $. I'm real flexible on hours. So what do you guys/gals recommend? My mother thinks I should try to get an internship somewhere, but I don't know how likely it will be to get one - in the fall, I'm going to be pursuing (most likely) a Computer Enginnerring degree at Texas A&M.

i am in the same boat, 18 and graduating... i think i am going to try to get a job at the local FedEx drop point... 11.04/hour and you get a nice workout while doing it... if i dont get a job ther ei am probably going to try to get a low management job at my current super market job.

frosty: that's kinda funny, I've been looking at UPS and Fedex jobs this morning..Fedex searches didn't turn up anything for my locale though

any just like big warehouse places around? or maybe at the Post Office... thats probably pretty good pay since its a govt. job... i dont really know though.

other jobs you might want to consider are waiter jobs at like halfway decent restaurants where the prices for meals are not too cheap, but not too expensive, so that the % tip will be just right for your pocket 😉 ..... maybe like a red lobster or a don pablos restaurant, but not a dennys, because its too inexpensive to eat there

Have you tried joining some work agencies. That what I did before going to Uni, they found me a nice easy office job that paid well aswell

When I was working for an agency I only had my A-levels (very similar to your HS diploma). But being computer literate will get you a well comfy job

Sell crack on the corner. After you get a good customer base turn them all in so they get kicked out of their government subsidized houses. Make sure you get a reward for that.

I spent the summer working for the council, my offical title was Administrative Assistant. It was well comfy, spent most of my time on the phone sorting out difficult council tennats or sending emails to my friends. Had the pleasure of getting very aquantied with the photocopier and fax machine but it was one of the best summer jobs I have had. The best thing though is it looks great on your CV

Check into a temp agency. You could probably get a cushy office job or something.

maybe helpdesk somewhere...entry-level helpdesk is not too picky at all.

try monster.com and hotjobs.com, maybe look in the classified of the Sunday paper.

I did door-to-door newspaper subscription solicitation..It got me real familiar with Fayetteville, NC...got to see alot of interesting things..plus the money was great, 6.25 an hour or commission whichever is higher. I think I averaged around 9-10 an hour for about 20 hours a week.

I wish summer jobs paid $9+ an hour around here. I know Dallas has a higher cost of living than where I live but damn. 🙂

Be a lifeguard, its a cool job. You'd be out in the fresh air and have all the grls hanging around you. If you plan on being stuck in an office for the rest of your life, spend a summer doing this. You gotta be a good swimmer but some cities/counties will help you get certified. Are you comfortable in the water?

get a job workin road construction. your outside all day dont work when the weather is to crappy. my friend made 18$ an hour workin for our county and all he did was jold that sign that said stop. and he let cars go. worked like 12 hour days he made a killing.

Work in some warehouse plant. my roomie worked in a factory that made vinal siding 12$ an hour. and he got to drive a fork lift!! 🙂

Where i live any job workin for the county or state pays good. they usally stick you in a park and you paint fences and mow lawns and crap 10$ hour

Yardwork always pays well and you get all the benifits of manual labor
