So I've had the same drivers and everything installed on my Vista machine and this past weekend it got over 90F.

I've played tons of flawless COD4, CS:S, WOW and Crysis no problems with most things maxed out except Crysis of course using the DX9 tweaks and Crymod.

This weekend I didn't turn the AC on because of $$$ issues but I was playing COD4 and it crashed several times... hard crash sound stalls and screens freeze the 2nd monitor goes to standby for about 10 seconds then the desktop flashes and I'm playing again... If it were XP I would be restarting it...

I was watching the temperature in my system tray via Riva tuner which puts the GPU fan at 100% on the upward threashold of 70F...

The only thing I can blame it on is the heat since the nvm...dll was crashing right around ~86F.

Seems like 86F is kind of low for it to crash like that...

Try putting the shader clock lower. My 8800 GT gave me problems over 1650 no matter the temperature I had.

What are your ambient room and system temps? I'm gonna guess those temps you listed other than the 90F are supposed to be C, since 70-86F is nice and cool for PC parts. 70-80C is still pretty cool under load, although 86C is starting to get high, especially if the fan is at 100%.... I'd say improve your case cooling but that Thermaltake in your sig looks like it has plenty.

COD4 does tend to stress shaders and OCs more than any other game. Like others said I'd try and back down your CPU OC and especially your FSB/RAM timings as those are also known to cause TDR errors. As a last resort, try underclocking your GPU, although you really shouldn't have to since its factory OC'd.

I will try lowering however that OC is the stock OC from EVGA and if it were the OC why would it just start happening now? The OC would cause it to happen all the time right?

Yeah the temps should all be C except for the 90F... also ambients are around 70-85F. My case has very good circulation and I have 120mm intake and 120 out. With the intake running high then the out usually. Also have the Tuniq with it's 120 blowing away from Video card and towards psu as I"m not to worried about the PSU over heating... but temps inside the case are usually very close to the ambient room temp...

Well you kinda answered that in your first post: your ambient temps increased. This is something that is definitely seasonal and very common on these forums where completely stable OCs during the winter suddenly become unstable in the spring and summer.

Lowering the card's OC is fine for troubleshooting, but you really should see if you can solve the problem otherwise. If your case doesn't have a side panel fan but allows for one to be mounted, I'd definitely go that route as its a quick, cheap and effective fix for GPU temp related problems. Otherwise the only thing you can really do is lower your ambient temps by turning on the AC and such.

Wel, having 86 C with the fan at 100% is not normal at all. My 8800 GT had 86 C in full load but with the fan at stock ( 29% ). You seem to have a cooling problem. Since your case is well ventilated, I would reseat the heatsink and reapply the thermal paste or even better , get another cooler.

No side fan available, but I was thinking of cutting one out for a fan I don't know if it would be worth it or not though... but I think turning on the AC is going to be my route. or running it with the sid panel off on a hot day with a fan blowing on it but then there's dust to worry about.

Just get an accelero S2 for 20 $, strap a fan onto it, or even run it passive and your card will be much cooler then it is now.
