Sum up the US culture in one paragraph

A friend asked me:

how would you sum up the united states in a paragraph in relation to their culture, society and anything else that pops into ur head?

Ideas?

:cookie:'s for those who manage to keep it sensible, facial slaps to those who don't!

cheers.

You can't. The US is too large and heterogenous. At most you could break the country up by region and describe the underlying currents of culture for each particular region, but even then there's a huge amount of heterogenity.

For example, the Midwest and the Great Plains are almost the complete opposite of California and the West Coast. Heck, NorCal is oftentimes the opposite of SoCal. And aside from Seattle/Tacoma, Washington state is largely on par with the Midwest.

America is too large and diverse to give any kind of adequate description in a paragraph.

The US culture SHOULD be that all students do their own homework. Alas, we have lost that ideal.

Oblivious, overconfident, wasteful, lazy, obese, overly-litigious, zoned-out, loves excess, selfish, misguided fools.

I'm thinking the monologue from 'Team America' explaining why America being a d1ck is a good thing.

America is a good idea in theory but has a flawed execution. We're trying to build what we believe is a utopian society through flawed means such as racism, sexism, prejudice, etc. Just compare our past and present foreign and domestic policies, Wilson's presidency and Johnson's Great Society, for example. Our government claims to be a shining beacon of freedom, spreading liberty and democracy around the globe but that same government regularly limits the liberties maintained by its citizens.

This paragraph applies to communism wayyyy more than it does to america.

It can be applied to any government, but I think it applies to America more than people are willing to admit.

American dominence is fuel and a light for the rest of the developing nations. Without her, other nations would be slaving away still in the darkages. A beacon to the staving and hopeless, the United States of America, a model of human progress. Under a brilliant and bold leader, George W Bush, we walk in a path towards righteousness. Change and progress, words which other nations only speak of in poetry books, are words which America rises to each morning. A vanguard of humanity and equality, our nation is the epitome of democracy in action.
