SUL and SL Windows Upgrade

Hey all,
Single-User License to Site License. The company here used to run the SULs that came with the Dells, but half of them are WIN2k and we're upgrading to WinXP (better late than never I guess... (We still have some machines running 98 on a Fat16 file structure. Scares me to no end.))

Anyway, I was curious how much work will have to be done to go from the SULs to the new Site License we have just purchased. Is it a simple matter of putting in the SL disk and telling it to upgrade? Or do you think a re-install is going to be needed? (Mainly thinking about the current XP machines at this point, not so much the 2k machines. (They are getting upgraded anyway...))

Thanks!

If you're going to deploy Windows XP, do not upgrade the machines. The amount of hassles and problems down the road will not be worth it.

Start with a clean slate, install Windows and then your applications, SysPrep (Google it) the machine, and squirt an image of that drive out to the machines that have the same chipset as the source.

Start them up, type in your Volume Licensing Key number, and you're done.

Of course, this is leaving out a lot of the normal deployment stuff that you'll need to do, but it's a quick reply and I'm tired ;)

[Edit] You won't be able to change a regular XP into a VLK XP without a reinstall- it won't accept the new key. Format the lot of them ;)

Yeah, I know all about the wonders and joys (and pain) of imaging and syspreping. I was just curious if the upgrade was worth it. (I guess not) Thanks...
