Best thing is to get them admited to a hospital quick. Take them to the emergency room.

i did the google thing but they are all for people who are going to commit suicde themselves... also, the person is away at college and doesnt have many friends so there isnt anything we can do directly, it has to be by phone

Will this person call if you give them a hotline #?

Can you call 911 and have someone check on them?

go to the school's website to get the #number for the campus police. I think you can also call 911 and have them forward you aswell, not sure though

If you think they are serious, and care about them, call the police, campus security, basically anyone who can get their a$$es over there fast.

we have them on the phone right now and are talking with them... so if we need to the best number to call is 911? the problem is no one knows where this person lives... like addresses or anything... its an off campus apartment...

If you have their phone number, do a reverse lookup and try to find the address. From there call some form of emergency services. A hospital or some such place would be best. I've been in that position before, and I know that most of the time, if they hear a police siren, then the deed is done within minutes...

I can't tell you who to call, but from the way it looks that's already been covered.

I can say this, keep an eye on them. Even after they get out of the "hospital" or where ever they end up going. If they go somewhere for psychiatric help, don't just think "hey, they're fine, they've been helped" because it's not always true.

My cousin got "help" and he seemed fine, and then he killed himself. I don't know if he pretended to be okay, or if it just got to him again and he decided to do it, but it's a bad situation. I wish I had known more about the situation, but I didn't really see him that much except for hunting season. Now he's gone and there's nothing anyone can do about it, so try your best to help while you still can :(

Depends on what is happening...

If you have reason to believe your friend is trying to kill him/herself right now, call 911 and tell them a sucide may be in progress. Tell them everything you know. The police deal with this all the time (sad to say), they will act on it. They take it very seriously. Just stick with the facts, tell them what you know, and that you're afraid for your friend's life.

If you don't think your friend is trying to commit sucide right now, call a sucide hotline and tell them what is going on, ask for advice and information. They are both trained to talk to sucidal people and to provide information to the family and friends of sucidal people.

THE MOST IMPORTANT POINT!!!!

People who tell others that they want to kill themselves are SCREAMING for help, they want it desperatly, they don't know how to get it, and are at their wits end. People who really want to die just go kill themselves with little fanfare. People who want to live, but don't know how, tell people first...

Get this person help now!

Well personally, I aint got that much to live for, I've just been buying stuff to help cheer me up. I'll probably end it sometime in the future if things don't work out. I mean, I'm realistic about it. No use trying to rationalize that things get better or that people truly care....because they don't.
