Suicide Bombers

Just reading some news updates on the Iraq situation, saw this on the headline at yahoo news

Got me to thinking, what does it take to turn a person into a suicide bomber? Is it fanaticism, or insanity, are they the same, or what? These people wander into religious places, through deception, look dead into the eyes of women and children, probably smile, and then hit a detonator, killing themselves and however many people they can take with them.

I know news like this is far from unusual, but it still makes me wonder.
 
Some reports were in the news a while back about heavy use of drugs such as heroine among suicide bombers just before they do their thing.
 
would kamikaze pilots have bombed/crashed themselves into civilians if they had had the opportunity?
 
usually religous fanatics will do it. they do believe that after they blow themselves up, they will go to heaven. there was this story about a suicide bomber in Israel that wrapped his balls up with kevlar or something to protect them from the blast so he could use them in heaven. they survived.
