Hi there, I would like to build a new pc within a month... I don't plan on o/c anytime soon, i would like a stable pc that will be using for daily microsoft office applications, photoshop, mpeg encoding, daily internet use, and maybe some gaming on my 15 inch lcd 1024x768 resolution.
The only thing I have is a maxtor 80gb ultra ata/133 hard drive right now. What is the best setup you guys have for a budget of $400-$500 for a new Athlon system. This budget also includes a new nice looking case/psu.

Thank you all in advance for you help.

All prices newegg.com. Athlon 2000 retail boxed, about $94. Chieftec server case (refurbished) with 420 watt power supply, about $70 shipped. Epox 8k9A mobo $85 shipped. Samsung pc2100 ddram, about $69. Ati radeon 8500 64 meg ddram (refurbished) $69. Lite on 48x24x48 cdrw $59. Total of basic components about $440 shipped. You'll have to order fast to get the case and ati 8500 video card.

if you prefer nVidia cards you could get a GF3 ti200 off ebay for a similar price.

other than that, youre looking at a great system with those recommendations. if you want speakers, check out logitech 640s or a creative labs 5.1 system and you'll have a solid little rig good for gaming.

if you want to pay a lot for your mobo you could look at one of the new nf2 boards. the asus one goes for about 150 at newegg. or you could go really really cheap with your mobo depending on how much cash you save and buy an ecs K7S5A alotta people like that board because its extremely stable but it doesnt have all the new goodies that newer chipsets have. however, you can buy it for about 56 retail or 35 refurbed last time i checked.
