Suggestions to acheive 3.2 OC on a E6600

I am currently running my E6600 @ 3.060 (9 X 340) 4-4-4-12
core temp 36 39 idle
core temp 52 53 load (ran orthos for 8 hrs) Tjunction 85 what is that?
CPU Vcore 1.375
DDR2 = 2.1, PCI-E = 102, Mem mult = 2, +0.1v to MCH,FSB, PCI-E

What's the best route to acheive 3.2? lower multiplier or continue to increase FSB speed with the current 9X multiplier?

Increase FSB with the current multiplier.

Generally speaking it takes .03-.04v for every 100 mhz once orthos fails for the first time.

So if your cpu fails at 1.35v and 3.0 ghz, it will take 1.39v to make 3.1, 1.44v to make 3.2, etc.

I got my E6600 to run at 395 X 8 = 3.16ghz with Vcore 1.425 Vdimm V2.0
My core temp is at 65C at 100% full load with stock HSF. Is that ok? I had Prime95 ran over night for over 12 hours now, its rock solid at current settings but the Temp worries me.

Anyone else has temp at 65C full load?

Those aren't Orthos temps, I assume. If you're regularly getting those load temps, I'd say to either back down on the clocks, or get a new cooler. The stock HSF is just not too fantastic, and for even around $20 you could get a much better solution.

I think I will try 356 X 9 with the CPU voltage at 1.4 then see if I can dial the voltage back, currently CPU-Z reads the voltage at 1.35 but I have it manually set at 1.375.

I am using Speedfan V4.32 and PC probe II that came with mobo. Both reported temp at 65C at full load. guess Arctic Silver 5 didnt do much.

hmmmm...I just might have to get a better cooling solution.

65C is not a bad temp on Overclocked C2D...you have upped the voltage these chips run hot .....
what were your temps at stock vcore and P95...probably not far off

Nealh, I believe stock vcore was at about 590C +-2 at full load.

So you think C2D running at 65C at full load isn't bad. My idle temp is at 45C and avg load is around low 50sC which isnt bad.

what kind of case do you have? what are your ambient temps? It has been suggested that "your idle temps at stock should not be above 40 C typically"

what is full load ? Orthos full load ? 3dmark06 looped ? Plz elaborate :)

and im guessing his ambient room temp is a little high, or he put a little to much AS5 on his chip :p

1manarmy, since I'm still tweaking my new CPU, I have case fully exposed. my idle temp is 44C

MarcVenice, full load is when your CPU is running at 100% on both cores.

hmm I'm at 36 and 39 with both side panels on under my desk.
I have 2 fans in the front and 1 fan on top and 1 fan in the rear. My Zalman 9700 LED funnels the air straight out the rear exhaust thus I getting some good passive cooling on my northbridge.

If you DDR2-800 memory, in my opinion it's better to run 8x400 than 9x355 because you will have more memory bandwidth. Also the round number 'feels' better to me (running RAM right at spec at spec timings). Also some boards have FSB holes inbetween 300 and 400. A DS3 should be able to do 400 no problem as well.

I'm at 3.2 and my settings are:
8x400
VCore = 1.4 bios 1.37 actual
Memory at 2.1V 4-4-4-15 (spec)
PCI-E: 110MHz
VMch/VFSB etc. all set at the lowest temp (I don't use auto since it overvolts when you OC)

My core temps from TAT/CoreTemp are roughly 32/33 idle 54/55 orthos load for 12h, with an Ultra 120 w/ Scythe SFlex SFF21E fan.

lol dayg, when I do some randomn stuff on my pc my cpu will often go to 100% load, according to Windows. It will barely go up in temperature though. Thats why ppl ask what tool your running to stress your cpu, orthos for example can really give it to your cpu, but there is tools that will make your cpu run even hotter.

Well it appears my initial OC of my E6600 @ 3.060 (9 X 340) 4-4-4-12 did not hold again.
All of the CPU throttling functions were disabled, orthos ran for 8 hours (stable?) What gives.

I shut the system before I came to work yesterday and it was at 3.060, I fire it up to try to move toward 3.2 and before I even got a chance to make some adjustments it was back at stock speeds (9 X 266)

I seriously considering looking at another board, any suggestions?

alright this is pissing me off now, I can't even get this DS3 board to keep the CPU host control enabled even with the FSB at 266. It always reverts back to disabled. I have checked all of the settings recommended from the HardForum OC guide for the DS3 and everything checks out. The only thing out of the ordinary was the CPU Fan warning, I enabled it and upon start up it went off. My temps are fine 36, 39 idle so I went back into the bios and disabled it because it was annoying just as this issue I am having with this board.

I encountered the same problems when I had a DS3. I would advise against trying a FSB in the 360-400 range because the board tends to have a hole there from starting to max out on the 1066 strap. Once you hit 400 or 401 or so, you should definitely be on the 1333 strap and that will help.

(You can save your settings with OC PRofile, but they are hit-and-miss when you go to restore them - 0304 let me restore my old settings, 0311 did not / checksum error)

I ended up replacing my old Gigabyte DS3 board with an ASUS P5K Deluxe, the problem does not exits anymore. Do you have the release note for bios 0304?
