Right, so I finally decided on getting myself a new computer.
Now I want this system to smoothly play HD content, 1080p included...and I'm not really a gamer.

I thought of this build:
Intel E7400 | Newegg
Asus P5N7A-VM | Newegg
Seagate 500GB HDD | Newegg
Coolermaster 330 | Newegg
Corsair 400W | Newegg
I'll get 2xTranscend 1GB RAMs (G.Skill and OCZ are too costly where I live)

Any suggestions on a monitor? And I want to keep the price as low as possible.

You're up to $400 already and you don't even have a monitor.

You can get a Dell Vostro with E7400/3GB/500GB/22" LCD for $469

you might consider buying 2 hdds. I buy them in pairs; 1 to use, other to store the Acronis True Image backup. this works very well.

it's only another $20 to bump up from E7400 to E7500, and probably worth that.

you might consider a more powerful psu, that one might not adequately power a good video card. remember, the advertised wattage derates with heat to some considerably lower actual operating wattage.

you might consider a little more ram, up to 3gb if you use Windows XP, or up to 4GB if Windows Vista.

to save, why don't you scrounge around for a free monitor? that'd save you $200 +. lots of free crt monitors are around, schools, businesses, your local electronics recycling day all have high quality crts free. Some future richer day replace it with a lcd flat screen.
