What's my reasoning again for not getting Virgin Mobile at $35/month?
I will use voice very minimally. Text not so much and really only use the web for browsing, google maps (GPS), email.

VM (Sprint) 3G data speed is pretty slow compared to TMO, HOWEVER it is all very dependant on your location. It would be best to find people in your area who have both to compare what the service is like in your area.

One other plus about TMO plan is that you can BYOD, so it is a bit more flexible.

S3 en route from swappa.
Thanks for all the help.

If I want to take advantage of the T-Mobile $30
100 minutes talk | Unlimited text | First 5GB at up to 4G speeds

pay-as-you-go plan, you think it best if I just go to a store/kiosk when I get my phone or ??? I'll need the sim of course and for the life of me I don't see how to subscribe to that plan online.

No, just order the SIM online and activate it online when the phone comes (instructions in the SIM packaging). The Wally plan is just one of the plan options you get during the online activation process.

Are you ordering from the pre-paid site? It's now actually hard to get to that from the main T-Mobile site, but you can Google T-Mobile pre-paid...

Warning: you need a micro SIM for the S3. Or a SIM cutter ;)

Ah shit.
Time to cancel an order!

I'm probably best off just going to BB or some junk place and getting taken care of :) I'm apparently too stupid to figure this out.

Of course they have no online way to cancel your order... God damn it.
Haste making waste again!

Pone works fine.
WiFi while at home works fine.
I can not get ANY data service at all.

You have to edit the APN...

Either
1. Reboot the phone.
2. Reset data APN settings to default.
3. Check these settings are in
Name T-Mobile US
APN - epc.tmobile.com
MMSC - http://MMS.msg.eng.T-Mobile.com/MMS/wapenc <--- all lowercase
MCC - 310
MNC - 260
APN TYPE - default,supl,mms
protocol - IPv4
4. Make sure data is turned on in settings.

Is it a t-mobile brand S3 or an ATT one or ?

I actually just reset the phone (back to default Cyangen) and it SEEMS that the data is working now? Odd.
Will mess with it more.

I'm guessing the previous owner was using it on Straight Talk or some other non-T-Mo carrier/MVNO. Resetting flushed his APN modifications.

Hope you're enjoying your massive upgrade. ;)

Yeah it's been nice thus far. Of course with the $30 plan I only get 100mins... and due to some unforeseen issues this Sunday, I already used 35 of them!

Still a lot of "figuring out" to do with the phone. Finding good apps and using them etc etc.

half the fun of it though.

Thanks to everyone for the help.

Overage is just 10c/minute. But you gotta put some extra money into your account to cover this before you go over.

edit -- make sure you get Pocket, one of the agenda calendar widgets (e.g. Pure Calendar (Agenda)), and of course Tapatalk

Yikes, you guys have been very patient with this fellow - he's refusing to use google at all for any questions and won't even fully read pages he's referred to, hate people like that who want every bit of information wrapped up in a bow for them

Thanks! I'm not sure where I REFUSED to use google. And I admitted to and apologized for missing the small print at the bottom of the TMobile page. In fact the people at the TMoible kiosk didn't even know WTF $30 plan I was talking to them about when attempting to buy a micro sim.
