Sup guys,

About 5 months ago I asked for help on building a $500 gaming system and this is the suggestion I got that most people seemed to agree with. I never ended up geting the system but now I have some extra cash and I'm ready to do it.

cpu - amd am2 3800 orleans - $90
ram - 2GB ddr2 667 $167
m/b - nf4 am2 epox - $73
psu - 450W fsp - $50
gpu - x1800xt - $200

I have a montior and a HD so I don't need those things. Right now its looking like around $600. I can spend about $100 more bucs... or in that ball park. So really a $700 build I suppose.

What improvements if any can I make to this build since some of this stuff is probably already outdated?

This will be a gaming system, mainly play BF2. So I'd like BF2 to run perfect... right now I'm playing it on a 5 year old system, and while it works, everything is pretty much turned down to nothing. Naturaly I also want to not have to worry about playing future games for a little while.

Ok, so thats about it, hope you guys can help me out.

Note: While I'm a big fan of AMD, I'm not completely opposed to an Intel build, if you guys think it would be the better way to go. All my builds so far have been AMD and I've NEVER had any problems w/ the procs or the mobos.

Also that video card is weird, I see it listed for like 250 and also 199... but I couldn't figure out a difference aside from the company... Like on this page at the top its 249 and at the bottom its 199... so whats the big difference?

Thanks!

Total- $699.46 from newegg - a couple of rebates.

You could shop around a bit and get it all for ~650

Much better system.

If the OP doesn't mind overclocking, this system run circles around his preliminary setup.

Would it still b e good if I don't overclock? I've never been much of an overclocker, mainly cause I don't want to go through the hastle of extra cooling and stuff... but if I wouldn't have to, I would do it...
