Suggestions on repairing scratched mb?

Anyone have any suggestions on fixing a motherboard that was scratched (about 3 circuit lines) while trying to attach fan..motherboard no longer posts. Just go to radio shack and buy soldering iron and standard solder and be careful? (not that i could damage it more).
Thanks,
Todd

The high speed circuitry that is usually found near the CPU socket is carefully balanced and fine tuned. Even if you manage to reconnect the traces, their electrical properties will very probably be messed up enough to make the thing unstable.

Chalk it up to experience, and buy another one.

well, i have heard that it is very possible to repair these "trace" lines, believe they are called.
But you really have to know what you are doing and have the proper equipment, not just a soldering gun and solder sort of thing, this is fine, delicate work, not like plumbing!

Hi PoconoTodd.
Sorry to hear that.

I heard of someone using some special trace connector on their mobo.
I will try to find where I read this.

Try putting a credit card under the lugs on on the screwdriver clip side.
If the screwdriver slips it will hit the credit card instead of the mobo.
I hold the credit card tight against the socket also.
I have a variety of screwdrivers and find one that will fit the specific clip snugly.
Also the try to find screwdrivers that are not to long and have a large handle, you can control them better.

I know this doesnt help the mobo you have right now but may on a future one.

I hope you find a solution.:sun:

It doesnt seem you have much experience with soldering so I would suggest not trying to fix it yourself. Maybe a local PC repair shop or a friend can help, but as Peter said, it could work but be unstable.

Ive used thin pencils to delicately retrace damaged circuit boards in the past. Not the most technical of methods, but it may work. Your best bet is to have an authorized technician handle the repair

My friend fried his mobo and RAM when he cut one trace on his 8K3A+. He luckily was able to return everything back to where he bought it and they sent him a replacement. He just said they never worked ;)
