suggestions on my new Motherboard...
I will be getting an EVGA X58 4-way SLI mobo, and all of my questions for this mobo will be based off this rig so keep this in mind;
Processor: 4.5Ghz Intel i7 920
Memory: Corsair GT 6GB 2000Mhz 7-8-7-20 DDR3 Memory (will OC soon)
Video Card: (soon as they release DUal Fermi's for sure, even dual GF104's if possible)
Hard Drive: 2x Intel 32GB X25-E Extreme SSD's and 2 storage drives, 1500gb and 500gb.
Power Supply: 1200w+500w Thermaltake Toughpower Modular Power Supply
Display: 3x 23" Acer 100,000:1, 2ms, 300 brightness HD monintors. (for NVIDA vision)
Sound Card: PCIe x1 Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal!ty Champion Series SoundCard.
Motherboard: EVGA x58 4-way SLI
Case: Antec Twelve Hundred ATX Gaming Case
Operating System: 64-Bit WIndows 7 Ultimate (OEM Builders)
Surge Protector: 2800 Jolles ROtating SurgeGuard
CPU Cooler: Homemade 22" Ultra High Velocity Fan w/ airconditioner attached. (THE BEST!)
DVD Burner/Reader: 22x DVD+R DVD Burner w/ LightScribe SATA
Blu-Ray Reader: 2x Blu-Ray DVD-ROM
I'm at a library because I don't have internet so if these questions seem dumb, just remember that I don't have a lot of time to google everything, so simple answers are going to save me big. These questions may seem like 'duh' to you, and they may actually be 'duh', but I'm trying to organize myself based off of this list of questions, so tell me what you know. You're probably going to say "wth question is this" but that's ok becuase i'm %100 bred newb on all of this new technology. As far as my questions go, I have built them up over time from what other users have said. So in other words, to me for all I know, they could just be rumors or lies, so just clarify the answer for me.
COOLING. What is the best cooling method for the 4-way SLI MOBO? I already seen cooling blocks, etc.
1: I have the Antec 1200 ATX Gaming case, and I heard that would be perfect for this board, yet I hear others say "no". Now I don't know for sure, so if someone can clear this up for me I'd appreciate it. I need to know If I'm going to have to cut holes in my case or get another one.
2: As far as the nForce 200 chips go, does this allow 16x16x16x16x8x8x8x regardless of what is installed? (my sound card for example, a tv tuner as well and dual Fermi's)
3: In what cases would I use the two ATX 8pin power connectors? I heard for extreme overclocking, but what does another ATX 8pin power connector have to do with overclocking? confused.
4: I understand it needs a case with at least 9 PCI slots or 10 comfortably, but if the mobo only has 7 PCI slots, where and why are 3 extra needed on a case? That doesn't make sense to me. (Maybe I'm just confused what PCI slots are on a case. Are PCI slots on a case the empty slots in the back of the tower where you plug stuff in? if that's true, my case has 7 slots just like the motherboard, so why the 3 extra..."
5: I see this mobo doesn't have any Onboard SATA III or any USB 3.0. Are those even needed at this point? What are your thoughts on that? Especially the SATA III.
6: WHy does it only have 9 SATA ports as opposed to previous evga mobos?
7: How is the OC ability and stability compare to the standard EVGA X58 3-way sli mobo? How does it compare to the standard 3-way classified as well?
8: Serious question. I heard the nf200's slow down performance a little UNLESS you're using 4 GPU's. Thats a big dissapointment to this motherboard if thats the case, because i'm all about pure performance, and performance is my primary concern. So does that make this board slow now? I sure hope thats all false.
9: Is it true you should have 2x 1200w PSU's to power this thing? Or is that only if you're running everything OC'd AND running 4 GTX 285's? Which would be more correct.
10: What are some of the power supplies that can support this? (2x 8pin power connectors, etc)? This is very important as I want to OC it to the max. I currently have a 1200w THermaltake Toughpower Modular power supply and 500w of another, thats 1700w alltogether.
