Suggestions on how to present a gift

Hello to all the post-midnight ATOT folk!

Believe it or not, I was reading and was about to go to bed. But, my friend (for anonymity's sake, let's call her Woman) was on my mind. We've been friends for a few months, met at school. I believe I talked about her and my other friends in another thread once. Anyhow, I did not get to see any of my friends for xmas, nor did I see them much during the holidays so far. We did go see LOTR as a group outing and it did rock. Woman and I met at school, and at first we were squabbling like hell, always arguing (fun though) about something. After a while, we got to know each other better, and now I've grown rather fond of her, as a good friend. I haven't known her as long as say any of the people I know from high school, yet the value of her friendship to me has already exceeded that of 99.9% of people I've known in the past. I love hanging out with her, joking around with her, tickling her, hehe, etc.. you get the point.

Anyway, we're having a group get together on new year's eve. Woman and I are having a gift exchange. 😀 I've never really bought anybody gifts before. So you can imagine that I'm no good at picking stuff, much less for a female friend. I did come to a decision though. I know that she really loves cuddly things, teddies, etc. She also loves love 😛 like romance and stuff, likes romantic movies and things. At first I thought of something to do with roses/flowers and/or chocolate. I figured that an actual rose would be too much and I guess get the wrong message accross. So then I thought of something more 'cute' that she might like, and enjoy too - a flower made of chocolate. 😀 Has the element of romance yet still on a friendly level, and yummy too.

I eventually discarded that idea, as the chocolate might melt or break or I may not be able to find it anywhere. Thanks to an online friend I got inspired for an idea. A teddy bear, with the teddy bear holding flowers! 😀 The only problem with that was I didn't know how I'd get a teddy to hold flowers, and what kind of flowers to get. I went shopping with her best friend (also a good friend to me). We came accross something perfect. It was a medium sized huggable white teddy bear. It's fur was extra soft and nice. It's two arms were bound together sewn with two nice flowers, very nice looking and not roses. It was really cute.

I am pretty sure she'll really like it, she loves cuddly things, things she can hug, and just teddy-bear-like things in general. So I think she'll really enjoy my gift. Now, the only problem that remains is how to give it to her? We are all meeting at a restaurant for new year's even (monday). How am I gonna present this thing to her, and not let it be obvious as to what it is? I thought of sticking it in a gift-bag type thing, but that would give away it's shape due to the bulkiness. The only other option I can think of is giving it to her in a box. That might be awkward for at a restaurant though. Should I meet her earlier somewhere else where I can throw away the box and let her carry it around or use a bag of some sort for her to keep it in?

I would REALLY appreciate some assistance with this. Although a new friend she means a lot to me, and I care for her as much as I've cared for anybody. I really want this gift to be given to her properly. My eyes and ears are open to your suggestions and thoughts.

Thanks in advance, by the way.

Dammit, why is it that when I spend a few minutes writing out a post, it gets no replies, yet all the stupid-ass nef bullcrap gets attention? How ludicrious.

I would suggest meeting her earlier so you won't be lugging a box around and she could get the opportunity to leave it somewhere safe so she wouldn't have to carry it all night.

Here's what you do: go to the card department at Wal-Mart and get one of those bags with handles
they come in many colors and sizes, get a purple bag-if they're out of purple, get yellow. next to the bags, you'll find packages of tissue paper. get white or pink. take a sheet of the tissue paper and losely wrap it around the bear. place the bear in the bag. place tissue paper over the top and tuck down to fully conceal the bear. crumple pieces of tissue paper and place on top of covered bear. arrange the paper so it looks pretty. also, why don't you put a card in the bag. just get a simple one that says has a generic holiday greeting in it. sign it with a short message like "Happy Holidays" and write your name. when you exchange gifts, just hand it to her and smile. it's that easy!

Hey, thanks for the input! I considered the option. Only problem with that is that the bear is too big to put in a bag like that, it'd be bulging out the sides a bit and she'd know right away what it is. I want it to be a surprise. 🙂 The card idea is good and I thought of that too, but I couldn't find any good ones. 🙁
