I am looking for suggestions on some new games for my wife. I want to pick up some stuff while the sale is still going on to broaden her horizon a bit. She has played games over the years but never had a very broad experience.

She has played and enjoyed:
Dark Age of Camelot - Her favorite ever, she is into mythology and stuff.
Northgard - Just got this for her this week, she loves it.
Star Wars The Old Republic - She skips the story because it is boring.
Ceasar 3 - One of the first PC games I got her to play.
Tropico 3/4/5 - Plays it but not much.

Did not enjoy:
Sims - Used to like but not anymore because it is too much like real life, work.
Crusader Kings 2 - Just didn't get into it.
Torchlight - Meh
Recettear - Played a bit then meh.

So we have worked out that she does not care for story but likes mythological settings and building. She does not like being told what she has to go do. She has shown an interest in Dominions 4/5 but I think that has more to do with the mythology and she wouldn't like the gameplay.

I plan on getting her Age of Mythology for an RTS type game and 7 Days to Die so she can build whatever while playing with my father and me.

Any other suggestions?

Truly insane. Story was the main draw for me, the rest of the game mechanics drove me away.

Along the lines of Caesar 3, try Banished, a medieval based setting city builder. That or check gog.com for all the old city builder games there like Pharoah, Children of the Nile, Zeus, Caesar. For world building/survival she might like Conan Exiles. City:Skylines is the best modern SimCity builder.

I know, it is weird. Whenever we would play together she would get a little frustrated waiting for me to hear the story.

I have not tried Banished because it seemed like a boring version of Dwarf Fortress or Rimworld to me. I am trying to get her away from the nearly dead old style city builders and find a current genre that she would like. I agree on Cities: Skylines it just feels too easy compared to the older SimCity games.

Settlers might be an option, also Loki: Heroes of Mythology (2007) which puts Aztec, Egyptian, Greek & Norse mythologies into 1 game. It is currently 80% off on Steam and is a couple of dollars (£1.39 sterling it shows me) and I had a great time playing it at college multiplayer. http://store.steampowered.com/app/7260/Loki/

Is she's into mythology, I would suggest Titan Quest. But then again, if action RPGs aren't her thing (she was meh on Torchlight)........

not much that can stand up to DAOC. the combination of RPG, social elements, PvP, Zerging, and actual skill doesn't exist anywhere else that i know of; WoW comes *close*.

Check out Banished, Rimworld, and Stonehearth (not Hearthstone) and see if any of those pique her interest. They're all base-builders that allow varying amounts of customization. Rimworld is especially deep, but it's a space-cowboy type setting.

This is a bit out of left field, but if she likes building I'd suggest Minecraft. Modded Minecraft (FTB Unlimited) is especially fun to get into, even better with other players.

The :Total War series

While that would be awesome I really don't see that one happening. She has seen me play every single one of them and has shown zero interest.

Age of Wonders, Endless Legend, Spellforce 3.

I have AoW and Endless Legend, I will let her give those a shot before buying them.

Skyrim. /thread

I was actually considering this one, I will put it on the list.

I have never seen anything that comes close to the awesomeness that was DAOC. I loved the positional attacks and made fighting so much more fun than just button mashing.

Check out Banished, Rimworld, and Stonehearth (not Hearthstone) and see if any of those pique her interest. They're all base-builders that allow varying amounts of customization. Rimworld is especially deep, but it's a space-cowboy type setting.

I will let her take a spin on my copy of Rimworld. And thinking of Rimworld I will let her try Prison Architect as well.

This is a bit out of left field, but if she likes building I'd suggest Minecraft. Modded Minecraft (FTB Unlimited) is especially fun to get into, even better with other players.

She got a free copy of Minecraft with the new computer I bought her so she will be trying it.

My wife love Rise of Nations. She liked being able to build her base anywhere.

I'm not much help recommending games for your wife sorry. I can say my wife loves games like Portal 1/2, she beat them before I did, Droplets, Plants Vs Zombies, Defense Grid, etc. I don't really want her to get hooked on any RPG as I need someone to fetch me a beer while I play, not the other way around (just kidding lol!).

Also maybe Bioshock...?

Women have different tastes. Some women love playing Overwatch, not others...

A few less gamery ideas - Bookworm, peggle, and hidden object games.

Got Fog of Love for my wife for Christmas. She watched a playthrough review for 20 minutes and decided she hated it :(
