Suggestions on Dual-Boot?

Hi,
I have 2 harddrives, my IBM 45 GB is partitioned as "C" 10 GB, "D" 35 GB. The second drive is partitioned E and F for storage.
I have Win ME on the "C", dual booting with Win XP (2600) on D. I did this in case some of my programs or games didn't like XP. Now that i see how much better XP is than ME, I have a small problem. I want to get rid of ME and reclaim the space for XP. In other words, I want XP on C, but as I have already installed and set up XP, would rather not start over installing to C. How to move XP to C?
One thought I had was the File and Settings Transfer Wizard, but you still need to reinstall your programs, and any drivers that were changed from default. (I had to put the Nvidia 12.90 and TB Santa Cruz 4103 drvs in to get XP fully functional).
If I ghost the XP install, do I just back up the 4 NT bootlaoder files on C, then after the Ghosting, copy them back? Would this work?
Or just use Partition Magic to shrink C, then delete ME and its associated folders?
Any tips other than blow away C and reinstall XP? Or is this the best way?
TIA,
Mike G

You can also keep WinXP on "D". It's not a requirement to have the OS on the first partition, although some OS's might not function if they're installed on the second partition.

WinXP will run fine, though.

You can just delete ME/format "C" and maybe play around with Partition Magic.

Thanx for the answer, I know it can be on D, just wondering if you think there will be any speed loss with the OS not being on the beginning of the disk?
Do you know if my ghost idea will work? Just copy the 4 bootloader files from C, then ghost D to C, then add the 4 files?
Maybe I will go with PM, then shrink C down to a couple GB and assign the pagefile to C.
TIA,
Mike G

No speed loss at all. It's still on the same HD.

It would probably work, but you'd have to edit the bootloader files as well, or the bootloader would look for the OS at the wrong place. Seems like a lot of hassle for no reason.

Sounds like the best idea so far 🙂
