I'm talking about a game like Ghost Recon where you can compete with a friend online against computer opponents. I just tried Full Spectrum Warrior and thought it was lame - totally not what I expected.

It seems like games aren't putting coop in anymore and it sucks.

No One Lives Forever 2 comes into mind, but if I remember corectly, it's rather short . . ..

You'll probably have better luck if you play team-based multiplayer (as lame as that is, that's the only option I can think of other than Serious Sam, like Nohr mentioned).

I've played all the way through Serious Sam and part of Serious Sam 2 both on coop and they were fun but after a while the spawn, kill, die, repeat got old. Gotta respect the makers for a quality game that's got good graphics and coop for a nice price.

Also played through NOLF2 with 2 friends - we did have some synch issues and lag but it was still fun.

I'll have a look for Raven Shield.

In some looking I found that Half-Life coop has been created by Sven (LINK). Has anyone tried it? I've got my old copy of HL1 and another copy via Steam Silver so my friend and I could try it for free.

Thanks for the replies guys! :D

There will be a sven mod for HL2 as well. I haven't been keeping up on it, but it might be neat. There are various co-op HLDM maps too.

*looks back over the fps games that he's played coop in*

Doom2..... Serious Sam....

Thats really it heh. Coop fell off the plate somewhere, which is kind of sad because I love fps coop!!

NOLF2, like has been mentioned, is both good and short (5 missions). Lotsa fun though.

CS:Source. Enable the bots, make them smarter, and do coop with your buddy and 3 computer teammates.

For that matter, SWAT 4 looks like it could be good too (but, again, with some bot teammates). Splinter Cell's upcoming coop looks interesting as well.

The bots in CS:Source are way too easy though. And that's not really co-op.

I still play it ... it's a classic

NOLF2 has serious server problems.
(Not to mention COOP game bugs)
But, if you can put up with getting stuck, lost connections, and server crashes ... it's fun

Although I don't have an xbox, I would get it. I prefer FPS on the computer, but there just aren't any good coop ones, and Halo was all right.

Operation Flashpoint is an excellent game... A bit dated, like Ghost Recon, but an excellent game nonetheless.

Okay now I'm pissed at Steam or Valve's CD authentication or both. I had a full retail version of HL1. I have Steam Silver so I now have HL via Steam. I gave the retail CD version to my friend - not a copy - the whole thing.

We both install the game and the Sven Coop mod and he couldn't connect. Something about different versions. Sure enough, I'm running 1.1.1.1 and he's got (after update) 1.1.1.0. Search for a HL 1.1.1.1 update and find only one on a .nl site. He downloads/installs it and he's still at 1.1.1.0. Seems 1.1.1.1 is only available via Steam?

Okay, I tell him to install Steam and update it that way. He does so and when he tries to register HL it says the CD key is already registered and invalid. Hmmm... I don't remember registering it but maybe I did.

I'm going to give him my Steam login and see if he can update my old CD version on his system using my account. When he tries that it says "you already own this game". WTF?

This really sucks by the way. I paid for both games and I'm still having problems getting them to work. :|
