A friend of mine has a HP 6470Z which does have a AGP slot. He is looking to upgrade the video card which is currently a ATI Rage 3D PRO on-board. It seems that many people say to get a PCI Video Card since the AGP slot he has is too old to support any current AGP cards. I am looking for a good video card to run counter-strike alot better than it is running now for his computer....mainly PCI interface since it is sure to work. Any suggestions on what I should get him?

Thanks!!!

uh no get an AGP card. Stick a 8500 or a Geforce3....They should work

I think by new cards people mean the ones that are only 4x/8x AGP

Post the complete system specs if possible.

But just from what I've heard here, your friend is probably much better off saving his money for a whole new box. :p

Some users have said that new AGP cards have DDR ram and will not work...thus I have to find one with SDRAM

The problem probably isn't the ram, it's probably that his board doesn't support AGP 2.0. I had an old soyo PII board with the BX chipset which only supported AGP 1.0 and couldn't get a geforce 2 to work in it.

So with his HP6470z 400MHZ and 192MB PC100 Ram...which video card should he get to run counter-strike: AGP or PCI? and which specific card?

I wouldn't spend any considerable money one the video card. Any card you get for that meeting those interface requirements is not a card worth putting in a new computer when he upgrades. Spending more then $40-50 shipped would seem like a major waste IMO.

A 32mb geforce 2 MX card ($25-30) shouldn't be bad and is AGP 1x 1.0 compliant. Alot os SiS chipssets are too.

Save the money for a full upgrade and just buy a TNT-2 Ultra or a Geforce GTS off ebay.
Did that for my classic games rig, but I was very cheap and got a TNT1 for 5$ and not the GF1 for 20$
