Well our old Canon point and shoot just died JUST in time for the holidays. So I need to pick up a replacement ASAP.

Suggestions? ~$100 as I am trying to save up for a DSLR and just need something to hold over through the holidays.

SIDE NOTE: If you are selling a DSLR, I'd be VERY interested in seeing what you have. I don't need anything special. Or if you are selling a used Point and shoot I'd consider that too.

sweet! thanks! That's pretty much what I was looking for outside of a used DSLR.
Amazon Prime makes it a nice deal!

I would pass on the A1200 and get a Canon ELPH 100 HS, which is currently $119.99 at Best Buy: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Canon+-+...&skuId=2030087

Or you can pick up a $25 off $100 Staples coupon on eBay/e-junkie and get the same camera for $104.99 shipped from Staples.

Same resolution and zoom range as the A1200, but the 100 HS has:

+ Bigger LCD
+ Better HD video options (1080p24 and 720p30)
+ Faster continuous shooting
+ Much better low-light capabilities ("HS" = high-sensitivity CMOS)
+ Noticeably slimmer, easier to pocket

And the show-stopper:

+ Optical image stabilization (don't leave home without it)

Canon Powershot SD1300IS Digital Elph Camera - Silver - Refurbished$99.95

Using the Imaging Resource Comparometer, you can easily see that (at base ISO) the SD1400's lens/sensor combo performs worse in the corners, with more softness and chromatic aberration. The SD1300 fares better, but both have more corner softness and CA than the 100 HS.

At high ISO, the 100 HS is easily 1 stop better than the SD1400, and 1.5 stops better than the SD1300.

The SD Elphs are the better choice. The A used to be my preference (A50, A60, A70, A650is) I owned...they don't stack up as well against the elphs anymore.

the A650 was basically a canon G (G7? can't remember which) in a plastic shell that took AAs. very nice camera for fairly cheap.

FWIW, all the Canon P&S cameras take great pictures. For travelling, being able to use AA batteries might be a plus. I'm just excited that there are so many great options in the $100 range.

ALready picked up the 100 HS from amazon the other day.
Very nice little camera. In fact TOO little for my meaty hands. I wish it was a tad larger.
