i need some suggestions on a good ide cdrw burner. the most important things to me are "quality" and good "software". speed is not that important to me, and i need something under 200.00 bucks.

thank you :)

Since you also mentioned software, take a look at the 12x10x32 and 16x10x40 TDK VeloCD CDRWs. You can find both for under $200, and they perform every bit as well as Plextors and come with Nero which is one of the best burning programs out there.

Get a liteon 12x or 16x. Both are under a $100 at newegg.com. I bought the 12x liteon and it kicks ass. I havent had one coaster yet and have burned 21 disks. Its burns fast too.

I got the Lite-On 16x10x40x this week for $93 shipped from newegg. While I think Plextor builds the highest quality drives, the Lite-On just seems like too much of a bargain to pass over. It's not cheaply-built or crappy either...with Burn-Proof and Nero 5, it's almost a no brainer. But if you have the cash, the Plextors are nice.

For under $200, your best bet would be the Yamaha CRW2200EVK form Mwave. It's one of the faster drives you can get(20x10x40), along with a huge buffer and buffer underrun protection, and you get the best CD-RW software which is Nero 5.5. No way you can beat that for $200. If you're looking into something cheaper, like under $150, I'd recommend the TEAC CD-W516E(16x10x40), only $133 also from Mwave.

Go with the Plextor 16/10/40. That's under $200 and it's speedy and has great quality.

Another vote for the 16/10/40 Plextor. Can't go wrong with this drive. Burnproof, Plextor name which signifies quality...etc...

There is no need to chince on a component like a CD burner. This is not like a video card. This ROM could last you a couple of years if all goes well.
