Someone asked me to check into different ones and before I start I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on those to look for or services to avoid? They arent looking to get tied into a contract since it will only be needed on and off and would prefer not to have to pay a monthly service charge. Any opinions or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

With sprint you can pay an extra 10 bucks a month and be on no contract. Thats what i do. I pay 90 a month for 2 phones, one with PCS vision, 1000 daytime minutes and Unlimited night and weekend minutes.

The goal is to spend less, not more, right?

Shop for prices and policies that work for you. You'll find that they all have a minimum amount that you need to spend every so often (every 45-90 days, for example), otherwise the account "expires." Read carefully.

The "off-brand" providers, such as Virgin mobile, Trac-Fone, ECallPlus, etc., usually run on a major provider's network, so you don't really need to worry about whether the cell network is up to par--it's as good as the major provider whose network it uses.
