Reciever is 2 years old, and getting what seems like a common issue no sound, can hard reset and works sometimes but its getting worse.

I have a Polk RT-2000 with CS-350 center LS/FX polk rears. So need a decent 7.2 reciever even though i am running 5.1 atm.

I do have a 3D TV, and PS3, Xbox, WD live TV and cable box to run also.

Would like to stay in the $300-$500 range.

I seen Amazon had some good deals on the new Onkyo's. The 5xx series was $299 with free wifi adapter until end of month.

Can't link from work though sorry.

Thanks for the help

Looked up specs for those speakers and both seem to be about 90 sensitivity and 8 Ohm nominal, so might not be that difficult a load to drive.

From what others have said in past, Onkyo and I think Harmon Kardon and possibly Denon (?) have pretty beefy power supplies, if you want to play system loud.

I would guess all $300 ish avr have wimpy power supply, but may work adequetely for you, as long as you don't play really, really loud.

Newer / newest revisions of any manufacturers avrs presumably have all newest bells and whistles, and probably cleaner dac sections just because as technology advances and gets mass produced, lower distortion and higher resolution chips probably get incorporated at cheaper and cheaper power points.

$400 - $500, possibly a little more if you can afford, probably gets you a much better amp section.

People over at Club Polk (http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/index.php might be able to recommend specific avrs or brands that have been proven to work well because they have used those specific combos.

Thanks ya, i don't mind spending a bit more. The $300 is normally a $600 reciever maybe i will look at there new 600 or 700 series Onyko. I had a Denon prior.

Last reciever was about a 900 one prior one was about $1200, just seems like there arer some decent deals out there. I would prefer to stick with Onyko or Denon.

Thanks

I had a VERY similar situation to yours (replace the 707 with a 607 and my speakers are Polk RTIs) and I went with a Denon 1712:

http://www.accessories4less.com/index.php?page=item&id=DENAVR1712&gclid=CJTmtpuo6LICFZGiPAodAWEAWA

Why? Because it is the only receiver I could find at that price point that had the Audyssey MultEQ XT instead of "regular" MultEQ most have or the 2EQ my Onkyo has.

The difference in sound quality from the same speakers after the MultEQ XT calibration is AMAZING. A HUGE leap from the Onkyo. HUGE. Like going from SD to HD on visuals.

If you don't want refurbished and/or you want better iStuff compatibility get the newer 1713:

http://www.amazon.com/Denon-AVR-1713.../dp/B007R8U5W6

If you will notice on the chart on that Amazon page that the higher-model 1913 DOESN'T have the XT. For some reason Denon only put that feature in these two 171X series receivers and then on their high end receivers.

What that means in practical terms is that these two receivers may be the best values in this segment ever. You won't find anything else near that price point with the Audyssey MultEQ XT. Considering the whole reason we buy these is for sound quality, go for the best you can get for your money.

EDIT: I just noticed the 1713 is only 5.1. That makes the 1712 a clear winner if you really need 7.1, and probably makes that the best sub $300 receiver ever.
