Suggestions for Printer for College

I need a new printer to replace my aging HP 550C for College. I was looking at either the Epson Photo Stylus 870 or the HP 970Cse. It will also be used to print pictures that were taken from my digital camera.

The 970 is a fine printer... A bit pricy in my opinion however. For photos the 932c will give you identical quality for 1/2 the price. You will however, lose the duplexer and some speed. Either would serve you well.

Well, if you have to print pictures, those are good ones. I personally prefer HP for its black and white, and i like Epson more for its color.

You also loose the RISC CPU that the 970 has. The 932C only works in Windows because it's a "WinPrinter." If you only use Windows, the print quality is identical and it would probably be wisest to save money and get the 932C instead.

Save $100 and get the HP DeskJet 952. It is the same printer as the 970 but does not include the duplex unit. If you really need double-sided printing capability right now, then get the 970. If you go with the 952 you can always add the duplexer later. Or, you can do what I do and print pages 1,3,5,7,9, etc and then refeed the sheets and print 2,4,6,8,10 etc on the back sides.

I got a Canon BJC-8200 photo printer, it got great reviews and it prints pictures perfectly. The "think tank" technology is a cool idea too. There's a seperate cartridge for each of these colors: Blac, photo cyan, photo magenta, cyan, magenta, yellow
If you run out of one color you just replace that. Each cartridge is pretty cheap ($7-12 depending on where you buy).

The epson is the same way, as that BJC you said. The 932C is out of the picture if it is a winprinter cause I also run BeOS and need to be able to print from there. I don't use the schools printer because I want one for my dorm room for my personal usage. So it sounds like the 952C is a good choice, but one question, does it work outside of windows?
