Suggestions for overclocking

I just installed an Opteron 165 and I can not get a clean POST with the two FSB settings that I have tried. I tried to first set my FSB to 266 with a 9X multiplier = 2394Mhz and I also tried 245 FSB.

On both of these setting I had HTT set to 3x, I had my RAM set to 333Mhz (should be the 5/6 divider), I disabled PEG-Link, had DDR voltage 1.75, and played with CPU voltage from 1.35-1.50 V (1.5 being highest MB will allow). With the FSB at 245 I was able to start booting Windows till it froze, and then when I restarted it told me I had a POST problem and needed to change BIOS settings (same thing I was getting with the FSB at 266). The current BIOS version I am running is 1016.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Is this a bad BIOS version? Has anyone had a similar experience with the Opteron 165 on an A8N-SLI Deluxe MB?

Thank you for any assistance or suggestion you may have.

Well I have some updated info if it helps anyone. I tried to OCing my system a few more time last nigh. This time I dropped my memory to 266 MHz, and I did not get a problem till Windows was loading, then right as my speakers gave a little thud noise to indicate windows had activate my sound card, widows froze. I then had to restart, but this time I was not getting any POST issues just the Windows lock up during start-up.

Could this be my sound card not being able to handle the increased BUS speed, and if so is there a way I can limit this speed? Also does increasing the CPU Frequency (aka FSB) raise the BUS speeds form my SATA drives and PCI-E graphics card?

Again any help is appreciated.

have you made sure the pci speed is locked at 33.33, that may be causing the sound card problems.

I did, I think it may be a memory issue since I am useing 4 512 sticks of RAM. At least pulling two sticks out will be the next thing I will try to get my overclocks higher.

Anyone know How do I find out the stepping of my Opteron 165 and how that relates to its OC potential? I never though that some retail CPUs of the same make, model and core could be better than others.
