I can't upgrade my current PC anymore due to mb limitations so I am starting the planning for a new rig. I've decided on AMD. Due to cost contraints I am trying to get the slowest new technology and be able to upgrade one more time in 2-3 years.

From what I could gather, if I got a scoket 939 MB I can get a 3000+ processor for rather inexpensively. But my questions is, how much longer will AMD still make proc's for the 939 socket? And when the times comes, will whats available be much of an upgrade for the 3000+ - 3200+ proc I am planning on getting.

Hope that made sence.

Thanks

I'd guess it will be about 6-8 months before M2 comes out, so it's a pretty long wait. AMD will probably continue supporting socket 939 for a couple of years, minimum (especially considering that they made a pledge to support current Opterons for at least five years, some of which are socket 939). Your next upgrade would have to be an X2, of course, so you'll certainly notice the difference.
