Decided to get the following AMD chip:

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Deneb 3.2ghz 4 x 412kb L2 Cache 6mb L3 cache
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103808

Looking for a motherboard and was wondering if this would be a good fit:

ASRock

I am not going to do any OC'ing. Will be buying DDR3 memory (not sure on speed yet).
Will have two, maybe three HD's in the system as well as a DVD burner.

EDIT: Found some memory. What about these two:

I believe the memory above would work with the above mobo?

Mostly a gaming rig (90%).

Just wanted some feedback and suggestions.
Thanks.

I actually just ordered that same Asrock board (SHould be here Thursday) after my Gigabyte ga-870a-ud3 lost all the memory slots but slot 4. It's on RMA but I'll be selling it as soon as it's back in

. I'm using the same Gskill memory in your first link. I think my MOBO took out one module when it died (slot 3). Gskill RMA is really quick. I had my new memory module in a week!
I'll let you know how mine goes if you're interested.

This. Some of the best memory for AMD IMO; I use them, run them at quite a bit higher voltage than rated (1.6v over 1.35) and they still run ice cool. Plus, the 1600 CAS7 settings really up the performance on AMD (1600 CAS6-7 is where you're looking to be at for RAM performance :))
As for the motherboard, if you don't plan any OC-ing and will be using just one video card, a 770 or 870 chipset will do (heck even with OC-ing they hold up quite well). If you're running multiple graphics cards a 790X or 890GX will suit you, unless you wish to go full with the FX chipset motherboard. Try Gigabyte, ASRock is a fairly budget brand and not a very good one either.

This would be a fairly good board.
Actually come to think of it considering the features on that ASRock board for the price it's probably actually fairly good.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the feedback.
Going to be buying these parts here this week.
Last piece of the puzzle I am going to need is a cooler for my CPU.

Many thanks.
Cheers.

if you are not overclocking just get the cheapest cooler you can find with a PWM 120mm fan, then it will be quiet.

Any coolers you recommend? I dont want a big honking cooler in there (hehe...bad experiences in the past), but something that does a good job of cooling.

I looked at that corsair H50 cooler and it looked interesting. Looked "reasonably" easy to install as well.

Thx

the H50 would be great.

Im running a H70 on my HTPC and it was very east to install and does an excellent job, its cooling a Athlon II X4 635 that's currently running at 3.8Ghz but can do 4 and keeping it under 60c.

For stock clocks up to moderate OC'ing the H50 would do a very good job.

However you could also save some cash and grab a AC freezer 7 or coolermaster hyper 212+ for $20 and call it a day.

So I have been wavering here...the board I was going to buy was on sale and I missed it. Oh well.

So was looking at these boards:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007625&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&ShowDeactivatedMark=False&CompareItemList=22|13-131-647^13-131-647-TS%2C13-128-444^13-128-444-TS%2C13-131-654^13-131-654-TS%2C13-131-657^13-131-657-TS

Which will be paired with this CPU:

Outside of that, thats it. Have 4gigs DDR3 memory picked out.

Thanks
