Looking for comments and suggestion on buying a good Multi Function Device printer. I don't mind paying more if its worth the extra dollars. Cost per page if known would be nice as it will be used a fair amount and I am more cencernd with the overall cost of ownership/use then purchase cost.

Requirments:
Flat bed not sheet scanner (perfer legal size)
Full color (print, copy and scan)
Works with XP Pro
Auto Duplex
Perfer seperate color cartridges

I do not have any positive recommendations, but my experience with Brother's drivers has been less than acceptable. In any windows OS, the install seems to break fairly often.

I have a HP G85, that was recently discontinued and I've seen them for sale now (refurb) for about $170-$190. I think for that price they are a steal (I paid about 400 awhile ago)

I paid 470 for the G55 :(. Now that I think of it, that was very dumb. If you do get the G series though, get the high capacity color cartridges. They are much better for your money. The colors for the G series are not in separate cartridges. I like my G55, but it has paper jams some times for seemingly no reason. The copy function is very useful too. I have no complaints with scanning quality either. The software is rather annoying. Sometimes it crashes and it takes a long time to load. I also had problems when using a parallel cable, but USB worked perfectly fine.

Can one of you that has the G85 tell me if it can handle legal size color scanning and coping. I have seen some reviews that say it does not.

Had to go look, the glass looks like it only handles normal, not legal. Sorry!

If you are looking for a Multifunction I would say that HP is your best choice. Brothers seem to me to be cheap. (Inkjet) Lexmarks are seriously slow and expensive to run. Canon's are ok. I have not used the new Epsons. I know a lot of people who have the HP aio's and they love them. If you are looking for legal size scanning and copying look no further than the HP D135. Legal size bed and its FAST. (for an inkjet) I have the cp1160 which is basically a d series aio with out the aio. I know of a few rebates floating around for the D135, PM if you are interested.

I noticed that you are looking for duplex , look at the d145 aio.

I have been looking at the D145. The main drawback other then the price (although its loaded) is I have heard the cost of printing is high.
