Easier to just list it so I dont have to do my username and password bullsh^t in....

With P4's (northwood preferably) I say OC the FSB adn couple that with faster ram to increase the bandwidth...they love that...

List complete rig and I can help you!!!

I've thought about OCing my VidCard but I haven't done it before and THAT makes me nervous. CPUs are a little cheaper ;)

And a 5xx series to boot...stock HSF too??? 70 max is a bit too high for me to want to OC to much....If you dont raise the vcore (and we go off the notion the asus temp probe is wrong like usual) see if you can take the 3.4ghz up 100 to 150 mhz without having to raise the vcore...The extra 100-150 shouldn't raise temps but a few degrees with no added voltage.

I would say ram could help but without ocing the bus together with it I say it is probably in the 3% or less range in performance...

Do you have multi adjustments on that board? Meaning you can adjust the multiplier down and possibly raise the fsb while not changing oevrall speed? that coupled with higher PC ram could give you a 3-5% range in increase...

1024mb of ram?? That is in 2sticks right?? We want to be able to run dual channel it adds 5% for the p4s as well...

That BFG card is always a good coer and if you want gaming performance try taking that up a few notches in speed and that may give you more then anything I listed above in games...

It's the Zalman HSF, not stock...

Yeah the board is VERY adjustable. what PC RAM would you recommend?

Yeah, I went with two sticks! Definitely.

What's the best way to OC the card? I've read lots but I see yours is bumped up... suggestions?

You can do it right in the nvidia drivers....I am not sure what stock settings for 3d are but most I have heard were able to get GTs near ultra stcok speeds...

I am not the big DDR2 man so I would ask someone like Sentential to help you there....

I would run throttle watch..throttling kicks in around 70c..if you are throttling, you need to bring the temps down, or your performance is suffering horribly. My P4 550 was running at 70-72c even with the XP-120, the only way I got it to stop throttling was with water cooling..

And dont worry about overclocking that 6800GT, trust me on that one, download Coolbits to do it, add it to your registry and then you'll be able to overclock your vid card, I have a PNY 6800GT in my case running perfectly at near Ultra speeds(395/1100)

EDIT: Oh and it runs at about 52C Idle and 60-62C fully loaded

Your comp is only 5 months old...and you already need the extra performance? Are you sure?

here's what i see...

idle and 54c

if i load two instances of WoW and play them both...

86c!!!

I have artec silver (enough to only cover the center of the CPU) and the zalman fan... this is killing me!

Thats way to hot, at 86c you are definatly throttling..you need to get your temps down..

XP-90 or XP-120. You need it. Get some more airflow through that case. Get a power supply which moves more air. Don't use the "fan-only" connectors on it.

XP-90 and XP-120 aren't much better than the zalman he already has..xp-120 wasn't even enough for my P4 550.

update!!!

After cleaning my HS and CPU the FORTH time, and reapplying AS5 and my Zalman, my temps are now topping out at 62c and that's running my 3.4 @ 3.7 rock solid for 48 hours.

TIM is very tricky to apply properly but so worth it! Thanks all for suggestions!
