Suggestions For Laptop (Mobile DJ Use)

I'm looking at replacing my Dell Inspiron 6000 Pentium 4 1.5ghz with 512mb of ram. I use it primarily for mobile dj use with some light photoshop work and then the standard web browsing. I REALLY want to add to my Apple Collection and get a Macbook Pro but don't have quite enough to drop $1000 on one yet. A friend recommend a 11" lenovo thinkpad for $450 that has a backlit keyboard (something I'd really like if possible).

What would everyone suggest? The backlit keyboard isn't a deal break but would be nice considering I use it in the dark quite a bit.

I just want something faster than what I have now (which is almost everything I'm sure). I like the look of the Macbook from a presentation standpoint but I'm not only looking at those. I may have worded my question badly but I guess what I was also asking is how old in the Macbook Pro line could I go (buying used or refurbed) to get good performance? Obviously I don't wanna make a move that gets me something just as quick as what I have now. Any Windows Laptops people could recommend would be great too. I'm computer savy but not very knowledgable when it comes to knowing what's inside them. Sorry for the noob questions.

I dunno if you're actually DJing with your current system (I assume not...?) but the choice depends on what you'll be running as well. Unless you'll be running 100% pirated software (or software bundled with hardware, which usually tends to be cross-platform) then it also depends on which platform you have software for.

Generally speaking any current i5 should be able to handle everything you need in a reasonable DJ situation - assuming you have something on the lines of an Itch + Live based system.

The current HP Probooks are *very* unglamorous machines, but they are definitely built for the road (unlike a Crapbook) and at a reasonable price. Functionally it should be pretty much all you need. Whether it fits into your image is something else.

If your going to be DJing I'd get something with solid build quality. Something like a Latitude, Thinkpad, Probook etc. Though your going to have to sacrifice looks for durability. Of the 3 though the latitudes are the best looking imo. But it depends on what you want. Durability vs. looks.
