I know most of this forum's members have a lot of experience building high performance, cutting edge, machines. I have built quite a few of these myself over the last few years (hobby and for friends, not business).
I am now trying to build a different kind of machine and I need any suggestions you guys could send my way. I nam trying to a super stable, super quiet, and relatively cheap machine for my father-in-law. Performance is secondary.
I am considering the new VIA/Cyrix chip because it doesn't need any active cooling (i.e., a CPU fan). WHile I am investigating this new CPU, I am also trying to decide on the motherboard. How reliable are the boards based on the i815 chipset? Are they real dogs, or is the performance acceptable? What about the VIA PLE chipset? Is it too new for comment? Will it have driver support?
ANy comments would be welcomed. (Well, accept for flames.) Thanks in advance!
I have built quit a few performance machines over the last few years, but I haven't attempted to build anything based on one of the integrated chipsets.
the i815 (?) or new VIA PLE133
