Suggestions for iPod car kit??? (good ones, bad ones??)

My sister's birthday is coming up in a couple weeks & I want to get her a car kit for her iPod.

She has an '05 Toyota Prius & while she's got stereo & stuff in there, I know she mostly listens to her iPod & I don't think she has a car kit yet.........(Would probably use this idea on my wife too, if it works well).

But I noticed there are TONS on amazon.

Any suggestions for a good unit?? (FM transmitter really work or do they suck????)

TIA, gang!

Get a cassette deck adapter, it works much better (and cheaper) <---- sister in law has '05 prius, also.... get a car charger.

Doh!!! Did somebody say "cassette"?????? LOL!!!

Hmmmm.......so I assume you're sure that an '05 Prius *has* a cassette deck???

That is probably the best bet for the cheap route if your car doesn't have an AUX in jack.

I went with an aftermarket head unit with an AUX input though...it is the best solution IMO.

And yes, the FM modulator kits do suck.

YES IT DOES, also a 6 disk changer also, and hers has navigation 😉

OK, very cool!!

Yes, my sister's has nav too!! Pretty cool!!

A little narrow for my tastes as a car & takes off a wee bit slow, but once it's up & running it does well, handles well, has all the creature comforts, etc.

She spends more time peckin' at the screen than payin' attention to the road, but that's technology, eh? 😛

Any suggestions for a B&M pickup?? Or should I order online??? (Specifics appreciated)

bought a cheap FM modulator kit its borderline usable, sound quality is comparable to AM radio.

I am not sure if buying the expensive ones will help.

I am thinking of buying a cheap aftermarket stereo (<$70) just for this very reason, need aux in jack.

My 2002 civic needs does not have a Cassete player, if it did I would go this route.

Lookin' outloud here.....😎......

What about this one???

Kinda' looks like a neat all-in-one & cords are retractable.

???

That looks good.

There's another cassette adapter out there made by Griffin that will actually control the Ipod using the car's stereo casette controls (i.e. pause, fast-forward, rewind, stop)...

Oooooh, that'd be reeeeeeeeeeeeeeally cool!!!

Careful with some of those car stereo to ipod ideas. I know that in my case (2002 Honda Civic) the factory installed stereo to ipod idea wouldn't work if I had a 6CD disk changer, as the output from the radio to the new gizmo went into the same socket on the back as the 6CD changer does. In my case, I don't have a 6CD setup, so there was no problem, but you said above that your sister does. May want to read all the print before you make a purchase....

Ya, I think I'll stick w/ a cassette style.

Now, just wanna make sure I get a really good one. (Time to start readin' amazon reviews........bleh)

They're all the same. I think mine cost $10 at Fry's.

Bought this jank. It's not the clearest but it does its job. If you want quality, I would not buy anything similar to this one. Stick to cassette OR the monster fm transmitter.

#1: Go for an OEM (your car manufacturer, not Apple) iPod kit, they tend to be the best, even though they usually cost way more. Having your iPod integrated into your factory head unit is just cool.
#2: If the OEM iPod kit is too much, or unavailible, but the factory head unit has an AUX input, then buy this. It charges the iPod and offers much better sound quality than the headphone port does. I use one of these myself in my Altima (but in black) and it sounds way better than the headphone port did, which distorted the sound a lot above 50% volume on the iPod.
#3: If you're basically limited to the tape deck, then buy this. It'll give you the same quality you'd get from any other decent tape adapter, AND the car's pause, FF, and REW controls will control your iPod. How cool is that?
#4: If an FM modulator is your only choice, start using CDs. If you need a serious FM solution though, get this.

I did a lot of research on the matter before buying my Belkin Auto Kit, and I previously owned an iTrip and loved it. I plan on getting a Nissan iPod Kit if they make one for the 07 Altima though; I've got steering wheel mounted audio controls, it sucks only being able to use them for the volume. Good luck!

EDIT: And avoid Monster like the freakin bubonic plague. 75% of the price premium you'll pay to buy Monster is for the name alone, 15% for the pretty packaging, and maybe 10% for a minimal increase in quality.
