I'm installing a new mobo later...along w/a ghz t-bird, and this will be the first mobo that I install personally. The last time I had a new mobo installed, I had my "knowlegable" friend install it, and he fried it. He forgot to take of 2 mounts on the case, so they touched the mobo during boot...result, el-fry-o. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone one had any suggestions for a problem free installation...thanx!

Well oh mighty senior member :). I have installed over 70 boards. pat pat. haha, It's a good idea to take the mobo back panel out of the case. Actually there should be nothing in before you put in the mobo, that way there is nothing to bang against as you install the panel. Post the board out of the case with cpu ram hs/fan and video, just to be sure it's functional(you can also set your bios then) Make sure you have non-conductive material under the board. Place the board over removed case panel to see where the holes line up. Try to use as many brass standoffs where possible. Where it lines up with bigger holes ,(if there are any) you'll need to insert the plastic pegs. Screw in the brass standoffs and/or plastic pegs and place the mobo on top. Screw in the board , being sure you use the red fabric washers on the motherboard side(grounding):). Make sure it's solid and slide the board /panel into the case. Make sure you have a correct backplate first, ps2,usb,serial port etc... Always tough to get those usb plates off when boards already in the case heehee. Hook up your power , cables , cards , etc.. and you're good to go!! PS , don't install the board with vid in, i forgot to mention that ,,, only ram cpu, hs/fan ,,, gl and enjoy the new mobo :)

Alrighty...I'll try soon, but let me make sure that I"m clear on a few things. When posting the board out of the case, would it just be alright to set it on a cardboard box? Also, regarding the brass mounts and stuff, I'm a little confused on big holes, etc...and the whole washer thing. I know that I sound like a moron newbie, but this is about the only thing that I don't have experience doing. Yes, you have found me, a moron senior member...but thanks!

, Sorry ifi sound a**holish, i just found this sight (which i think is fantastic) and my newbie excitement is affecting my wording. cardboard should be fine , as long as there is no ink or paint on it. better to prop up the corners with something non-conductive to clear the board and all circuitry. When i say large holes/small holes , i mean the holes on the back plate in the case , which the mobo is going to be attached on. When you place your mobo on top, you will see where your mobo screwholes line up in regard the the backplate. It is a good idea to use as many mounting holes as possible, because after the board is in the case, when you swap ram or pull out/put in an Ide cable, if there is no support underneath, the board could flex. I wish you luck,(one board install and you will know as much about is as me or anyone else):)

sorry i forgot, the screws that go into that go into the brass standoffs require washers for grounding. they are almost always little red fabric washers.
