or experience with welding shops?

Okay, like a year ago, my chair broke.

the break was along a weld point between some tube steel and a crossbar.

looks like this.

anyone have any suggestions for fixing it?

i have the business card of a welding shop near here, because i worked with them for an eagle project about 4 years ago. but i dont know if they get work like this, and i'd feel kind of silly asking them about it if it's not the kind of work they'd want. they charge like 50 bucks an hour, and i dont know about minimum charge. (or how long they'd take to do the work)

a whole new chair costs like 140, so i dont want the repair to be very expensive.

if there's a way i can JB-weld this back together, i'm open to suggestions.

Got a similar situation here. Someone sat on the chair really hard and busted a weld. It's painted, so I figure that'd have to be scraped off before welding it back in place, assuming that could even be done.

I've got access to a welding lab here, but then, the weld is so close to the seat that I'd probably wind up with a lot of burning vinyl.

I wouldn't go through all the hassle of welding this. I'd put a countersunk hole in the far side of tube and make a shim with a hole in it across the diameter of the tube (wood, plastic, washers, jbweld) then drill and tap a hole in the end of that thinner tube and screw it together with a flathead machine screw.

Getting the shim stack just the right size so that the old metal just seats will be the most tedious part.
