I'm not allowed anything that gets hot. And I don't want to get too difficult (ie. no making scrambled eggs in my coffee maker). Lets pretend I don't have a microwave and never will.

I have a fridge and a cabinet. Nothing else. What can I make?

Currently I'm eating sandwiches, cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, crackers, pop-tarts. Any more suggestions?

anyways, you are living in quite a strict dormitory there.

Yes, but I have heard stories of people at other colleges dying because their dorm room caught on fire because of their George Foreman. I think its a nice precaution considering how stupid/drunk alot college kids are.

One of my friends at another university was telling me how three people (on two different occasions) in their area died because they were burning candles while drinking. Passed out and burned to death when their candle got knocked over (probably due to their drunkenness).

I have a microwave. I just prefer not to use it.

geez...ramen was a luxury for us...

I've been able to get grants and scholarship for my education and board. The only thing I have to pay for is food.

Fresh Blueberries. Seriously. They're pretty expensive by comparison, but if you like the taste they're healthy and filling. I eat 1-3 pints a day.

Microwave popcorn. This stuff is a gift from god (it's an expression). You can eat it out of the bag in 2 minutes (Depending on your microwave/popcorn brand). I sometimes eat a bag while walking to class in the morning, shove the remainder in my backpack when I get to class, and snack off it for the rest of the class. Why do you not like your microwave?

Apples. Cheaper than blueberries, and more convenient than blueberries or popcorn for grabbing stuff on the way out.

Other than that, I have cereal, chips, hot chocolate, 4 types of tea, and some goldfish. I also have a meal plan for most/all of my major meals.

(i went to a school where the meal plan was required)

but anyways, get the little water boiler. you can heat up water, make ramen, heat up soups, heat up anything really.

Cooking food in the microwave makes odors which is pretty bad in a small room. I don't want my room smelling like food for the next 4 hours after I make something.

I'll warm up a muffin or something, but I'm not going to cook anything that will smell. Even frozen pasta meals smell.

Cooking in your house does the same thing, but that is no reason to avoid a hot meal. Buy some air neutralizer and use that microwave. You would be amazed at all the things you can cook well in the microwave that are much more nutritious than a lot of the junk food people are suggesting. Putting up with a little smell is worth having something hot and nutritious.

Do you also just prefer not to use a fork? A microwave is the cornerstone of dorm cooking.

Open a window/door. Get a fan if you have to. I lived in a small room my freshman year and had no problems with smells from cooking basic things (frozen food, reheating leftovers, etc.) in my microwave.

The list of foods you can prepare without heating anything in any way is fairly short. I guess you can add ice cream and chips/salsa to your list. And salad, as well.

As everyone is saying, cook some microwavable food. Also, about this...

Yes, but I have heard stories of people at other colleges dying because their dorm room caught on fire because of their George Foreman. I think its a nice precaution considering how stupid/drunk alot college kids are.

That has got to be some bullshit urban legend. Foreman's get nowhere near the heat that would cause a fire. If you are cooking food you need to (obviously) watch what you are doing, but don't let some bullshit story you heard deter you from cooking a good meal. Get a Foreman, get a microwave, cook something decent in your room. If you are responsible, you have nothing to worry about.

how the hell do you start a fire with a foreman grill? in the army they dont allow that kinda stuff in the barracks, even still i had one, how the hell do you start a fire with that?(and there were drunks that had hot plates and far worse than me that never started fires either)
