suggestions for disposal/donation of old pcs

I'll have about 80 machines that I'm replacing at several of our sites this year (Most of them are near Portland Oregon or Seattle Washington) and looking for some good suggestions for how I can get rid of them.

Most of the machines are still somewhat decent and usable (300-600mhz; etc.) so I figured I would see if there is some easy place for me to get rid of them without just throwing them away.

My only real stipulation is that I dont have to spend a ton of time on this (i.e. ebaying them off one at a time is not a worthwhile endevor).

Thanks for your suggestions.

I tried to get rid of computers and other equipment like that. Many donation centers consider this industrial waste and they will not accept it.

I just got lucky some school was doing a computer drive to send computers to Africa.

There are usually charities which refurbish older computers to give to the elderly/underprivelaged. I volunteered for such a place and there was almost no limit to the computers we took. (hell, we put together some machines that were too slow to run 95A) You may be able to find a similar place.

Otherwise there's usually one thrift store in any given area that takes computers.

Me too 🙂 I need an old lappy that will take a 32 bit PC card

Ah, correction, I'm not a vulture; I'm a college student!

charge $50 a box?!

80X50 = $4k....in-fvcking-sane

just toss them out if it's really hard to find a home. Sell them for $5 + shipping and make $400

At work, they sell off the old stuff in big bundles on eBay. Basically a lot of multiple PCs with various parts. Delears buy them and scrap themfor the parts.

Of course depending on how old they are and if they work, I'd take a few off your hands if they are suitable for a LAN party scenario....

churches.......goodwill........volunteer programs

=

tax write off

Just get a receipt for your work.
I do this alot actually for local people who may not be able to either get out to buy one, have the money or otherwise wouldnt have access to a PC.Find a local volunteer group (tip there is no limit to the amount you can write off with church related stuff) so find a local church you dig and work with them.Or a place of worship would be a better "phrase" as not all religions call them churches but you know what I mean....

Even if they are older I usually take old PC's after I setup my clients with new ones so slap a new image on a 100mhz system and your good to go....
