Suggestions for cooling needed......

ok, so im going to be getting a Athlon 64 3700 (san diego core) and overclocking it to at least the 2.6GHZ range.

But i need some suggestions on a very good cooler. I was planning on getting the Zalman CNPS7700-Cu CPU Cooler, but if there is a better one out there that will do the job better, please let me know........

also, i am going to overclock my 6800GT, and although ive never had cooling issues with a GT, i just wanna put a better cooler on it just for the hell of it.
Any suggestions on a good VGA cooler??
(i was going to get the Arctic Cooling NV Silencer 5 Revision 2, but again, if there is a better cooler, let me know)........

Thanks.

I think because the 6800GT is already pretty hot, it is already equipped with a very high quality cooler, I doubt you will see a big diffrence in temps, by comparison to the lower end x800's and x700 that have CRAP coolers and to benefit from an after market VGA cooler.

As for noise, I have no idea I suspect that the stock cooler is probably louder but not sure.

As for the CPU, the zalman one seems impressive from the reviews that I have read, but it seems that the XP-120 is the britney spears of CPU coolers 😛

yea, the only reason i like the Artic Cooler is becuase it exhausts the air, so it helps with all around case temperatures.

Ive been looking at the XP-120, but i couldnt decided wether it would be good enough (im not a heatpipe fan)

any other suggestions, or comments?

If you don't mind spending a little extra money, buy a Thermalright XP-90C (pure copper) and slap a high powered panaflo 92mm fan on it. XP-90's are a little smaller than the 120's so fitting on the motherboard isn't an issue. Also as far as the fans go, the panaflo's have a great airflow to noise ratio so thats the best bet IMO.

It's what I'm running on my 3200+ Venice.

Also just FYI, Heatpipe coolers are better than the Zalman coolers. They do a better job.

OK, thanks.
I was just a little weary, as my Zalman 7000A CU cooler (for my Athlon 64 3200) has treated me good but ive never tried overclocking with it.

So the thermalright should do the trick??

The only other question i have is for my A8N SLI Deluxe mobo, 9 out of the 10 people that have it have told me the Chipset fan on it is annoying and very loud (9000 rpm, go figure)

So, what would be an appropriate chipset cooler replacement (it has to have a fan)??

thanks

Thermalright > Zalman in the overclocking department.

For your video card, you might want to get one of the Zalman all copper flower thingies for it. (The video card model with an 80mm fan)

Here is a good link to show you how they break the coolers down. This is how I decided what I was going to buy. It's a GREAT site.

http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=getarticle&number=12&artpage=1292&articID=224

Scroll down toward the bottom of all the listings of heatsinks/fans and you find some of the best combos to use.
I am using the Thermalright XP-90C w/ Panaflo 92mm fan --- get's good ratings.

Good luck in your findings and purchases! 🙂

I was going to, but the only reason why it didnt look like a good VGA cooler is because it doesnt cover the RAM chips (which the Artic does)

Just out of curiousity, how difficult is it to remove the stock HSF's on the geforce 6600GT and 6800GT cards? I was going to get a Zalman VGA cooler for my 6600GT but it voids warranty when you do that so I was afraid to.

Any comments?

I read a review of the Artic cooler, and the guy said that removing the old HS and putting on the Artic was easy, so im guessing its not a huge hassle

One last thing, is the Thermaltake 92mm Silent Cat Fan a good fan to use, as the site im buying from doesnt have a panflow, and this fan pushes 52CFM at only 21dba (which is pretty good)???

Also, any comments on a Northbridge chipset cooler?

As far as VGA Coolers go, i don't mind a little noise as long as it cools better and has good airflow. I'm probably going to order one of these nice vga coolers but can't decide between the Zalman VF700-Cu or Arctic Cooling NV Silencer 6 - Rev 2. The Vantec IceberQ 5 Premium VGA cooling kit (CCB-A5C) doesn't look bad either. Ugh. I hate these tough choices....someone help me out. 🙂

hey Bigcool check this site out to order cooling devices --> http://www.jab-tech.com

Sorry, im stuck at the same point as you

for me its between the Artic Cooling Silencer 5, or the Zalman VF700

both have good reviews, and both have pros and cons

this is a hard decision
