Hi,

Can someone recommend me a good way to cool a monitor? I've got a 19" monitor and it's pretty hot. I was thinking of buying one of those monitor coolers. Would those help?

TIA.

I thought about one of those until I noticed it ran from the PC PSU. Why cant the dang thing just plug into the wall? Instead I put a small deskfan next to my monitor. If I run the monitor 24/7 and look at black and white text for an hour it gets a slight smearing affect. Turn on the deskfan and it goes away in minutes....it's almost like watching one of those color change thermomiters as the smear goes away. I guess that leaving the back of it pointed at an East facing window has taken its toll.;)

All monitors are design to work at their optimum after they heat up. It takes 15-30 minutes for the monitor tube to warm up. Read the monitor specs for you particular monitor and you should notice an optimum operating temperature. That temperature is not usually obtained until after 15-30 minutes of being on.

Contrary to what I have said, if your monitor is in a hutch and doesn't have good air circulation or sits in direct sunlight (BAD BAD) then finding some way to move the air might need be considered.

If you want to go with a monitor cooler sold in the market, Here is one I found.

Personally I think it is a better choice if you want to save some space but blowing with a real fan will definitely work pretty good.

One neat idea about cooler kit is that it sucks hot air out of your monitor instead of desk fan blowing air in with some dusk to clog the ventilation.

Hmm... That looks like the one from 3dcool. It still uses a power socket from my mobo, which is what I wouldn't want. Anyway, I do happen to have a fan which can be plugged into the power socket directly. But it's really noisy and it looks like those sold in 3dfxcool and similar sites... Just have to try it then ;)
