I need to build a Duron System for this guy...he just wants it for internet and software purposes...nothing real heavy.
I am looking at 500mhz range...but i guess i can do Duron 600mhz....
I need good deal on Duron 600 & motherboard combo(maybe around $100).....what motherboard should i use....can you overclock easy with duron?????
Is unlocking multipl. on duron same as unlocking t-bird process???
Say if I pust it 200mhz....how much hotter will it get..will i be able to use retail fan....??

Durons start at 600mhz. These chips tend to overclock well. You could probably get away with using the retail fan for a light overclock. But why not just get a better fan? They're not that expensive. A Cooler Master Dp5-6H51 can be had for $10 or less and it's much better than the retail HSF.

I don't know where you're gonna find a Duron 600 and mobo for $100. You can't even get a piece of crap PCChips board for that. Tell your friend to come back to you when he's serious about getting a system.

You can get an Epox 8KTA+ for $92 shipped from www.newegg.com and a Duron 700 (they're about the same price as the 600) for around $55-$60 shipped at a lot of places. The Epox is about the cheapest overclocking board you can get now. The FIC AZ11E can be had cheap too. You can build a powerful budget system for under $175.

You unlock Durons just like Tbirds. Connect the L1 bridges.

Durons start at 600MHz but you may not find one that easily. It will be easier to find a 700MHz and the price difference will be a few dollars.

The $137 combo ($152 shipped) from micropro.com (700 Duron, ECS K7VZA, Coolmaster HSF) is about as close as you can get to $100 without resorting to PC Chips, though I believe ECS and PC Chips are related. The K7VZA received several good reviews which noted its stabilty and performance.

I've done the bridge modification on my Duron 700 combo and am running completely stable @936 MHz (9 X 100, 104 FSB, memory @ 137 MHz CAS2). 954 MHz is good if the room temp is under 75F. 4-Way memory interleaving is already enabled on this motherboard.

The only discrepancy I've (and another person) noted is the core voltage is reported as 0.09 volts higher than selected by the L7 bridge connections.

The 750 combo for $7 more with a mild overclock (FSB to 112) would give you a very capable 840 Duron system.
