Suggestions for backup solutions: REV, GoVault or something else?

Hey all,

I'm getting frusterated with using my old Travan 20 to backup my six computers. As a result I've poked around and looked at my options to see what is out there besides tape drives.

I could use regular removable 3.5" HDDs but the backups need to be pretty portable. Which full-sized hard drives are not.

Then I stumbled across options like Iomega's REV and Quantum's GoVault. Both of these look promising to me and I wanted to see if any of you have experience with them.

I'm leaning towards NewEgg's package deal for the 35GB REV since the cartridges are much less expensive than Quantum's offering. I like the fact that the Quantum drive doesn't need special drivers but the "cartridge" cost is very prohibitive.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks for looking!

You might want to ask in Peripherals, more likely to run into someone with those drives.

Thanks for the suggestion, I forgot all about that forum. When I skim the forum home page I see: Operating Systems, For Sale/Trade, Off Topic, Networking and Forum issues and somehow miss the rest. 🙂

I bought three enclosures similar to this Text and just swap my drive out to each computer i want to backup.

backups with these enclosures are so quick. i had been thinking about getting a REV drive or other tape backup myself but couldn't justify the price for the hardware. This was the best option i could think of.

good luck!

I think that's probably what I am going to go with. Thanks for the suggestion.

It's pretty cool how versatile hard drives have become lately, they do everything. 🙂
