Suggestions for backing up in different 2 locations?HELP

I want to synchronize a folder/hard drive between my office, and my home computer. What is the best way to do this?

I've explored and researched all sorts from using a software like ViceVersa or SyncBackSE, to setting up FREENAS on a computer/server, to using a VPN hardware router.

What is the best way? and the way that will not need constant hands on tweaking to keep running? I want something that will keep the files synchronized securely.

Suggestions?

There is no "best way". It depends on what type of files, their size, how often they change, your security needs, how much you can spend, Internet link speed (upload AND download) and other things.

In no particular order:

VPN
Remote Desktop
Microsoft Exchange Public Folders
Microsoft Sharepoint
ViceVersa (yes, I've used it)
Windows Offline Folders (combined with VPN)
FTP

All of these will allow synchronization with little or no maintenance.

Thanks for the list so far.

I will need to basically maintain a drive in each location that will contain close to 40 gigs (Work, Large Design files, word docs, etc) in both locations. But the day to day changes won't be more than a few documents a day, maybe a graphic file around 200mb some days, etc.

My main concern is that the data is securely done.

As for cost, I am trying not to spend a ton extra if possible. I have a computer I can use with Windows XP Pro that can run as a server if necessary, or I am willing to buy a software up to $100, or a VPN capable router in the same range, whatever is possible around $100 or so.

I used to do this with a Windows VPN set up on an XP Pro box, but I found the windows VPN to be a bit unreliable.

Would a Hardware VPN, like a $80 VPN router be ideal? Could I then tie in some sort of encryption while the data transfers?

You've used ViceVersa, is it good? Would it do what I am looking for easily? And do I need to do anything else to get it secure like run SSH or something?
