Suggestions for a Sporty car around 25000

I'm looking for a new car in the near future. Right now I have a Dodge Neon SE and I really don't want to drive it anymore.

Cars that are of interest right now are.

Dodge Charger R/T
Nissan Altima Coupe
Subaru Impreza WRX 4-door
VW Jetta GLI

Anyone have any suggestions?

Mazda3-s (s has a larger engine & a 5-speed if you get an auto, among other things) or Mazda 6. Nice cars, fun to drive, and good gas mileage to boot. Just bought myself a 3i a few months ago.

mazda MX-5, or a slightly used honda s2000, you could always go with a 3rd gen rx7(rwd ftw). WRX is nice, but unless you get the WRX STI, your wasting your time. and considering you live in a place that possibly gets snow on occasion...i would suggest not getting the GTO, i've seen them stuck in the snow alot, along with wrx's with some all weather tires and summer tires.

S2000, GTO, EVO/STI, MazdaSpeed 3 are the sportiest cars available in your price range. The GTO and MS3 are the most comfortable. Then it is just a question of push vs pull 😉

well he lives in ILL near the lake, so he gets snow quite often im assuming, and he probly wants to be able to drive it in the snow, so the gto, is kinda iffy as it gets stuck in the snow from what i've seen, the sti i've seen get stuck in the snow with the stock rims/tires that are summer only for the most part. so it narrows it down a bit. but this is me in upstate ny that gets hit with 2ft of snow in a night. so im going off of that.

I would suggest the Civic Si, Mazdaspeed 3, MX-5 Mazdaspeed, or Mini Cooper S/JCW if you have to stay under 25k and want to buy new.

Used...well there are really a whole lot of choices to pick from...S2k, Boxster, etc.

If you can afford to spend some more then you could step it up to the Evo IX or STI, although you would sacrifice some comfort for the extra performance.

Sure he could get a 3rd gen RX-7, but you need to factor in the cost of a buying a tow truck to take you to work in the mornings. Unless you know a mechanic who knows whats what on that particular rotary you are asking yourself for a huge headache.

Now you could get a new RX-8 for around the OP's price range, they are fun cars just not balls to the wall in a straight and weak on torque. But I think they are great looking cars that handle well.

A vanilla WRX isn't a waste of time.

To the OP - go and drive some of these cars and take notes of what you like and didn't like, then sleep on it and drive the ones you liked the most a second time.

GTO/STI/EVO are all going to carry hefty insurance premiums over the cars you previously listed.

Edit - Just for giggles a new V6 Camry is faster than a 350Z 0-60.

What are you smoking?

Highest time I found for a Z from a reputable performance source is 5.8 while the lowest is 5.3. You took the lowest time for the Camry and highest for Z but they are still even. Z is a piggy.
