Suggestions for a new video card under $200

I am looking for a new video card since my current card, MSI NVIDIA Ti 4200, just fried. Can anyone suggest a solid card with adequate performance under $200? I do a little gaming, mostly sports games, and I watch movies and TV on the computer. I am running a P4 2.8 GHz with Hyper Threading, 512mb of DDR400 ram on an Asus P4P800 Deluxe motherboard, and windows xp pro.

Any ideas?

Thx for your help,

Best choice for gaming is an ATI 9800 Pro 128 MB with 256-bit memory path. Hot Deals list some of the best prices on these.

If you have an irrational bias against ATI, then an nVidia fx 5900 non-ultra (but not some crippled SE/LE) if you can find one at that price.

The nV 6600 GT looks like a pretty good card but you'll have to wait weeks or months before you can actually buy one.

thanx for your help,

it is looking like the 9800 is the favorite.
are there any major differences between the radeon 9800 and the nV fx5900 or 6600 that I should pay attention to help decide which card is right for me,

Wheneve the 6600GT gets realeased, it should be able to compete with the 9800Xt quite nicely so its going to be a "better deal" but if the release is like Nvidia's 6800 sereis, it would be a good 3-4 months before you actually see the cards in retail shops...

I'm gonna have to join the mob and vote for the 9800 Pro. I went this route myself 2 months ago.

Get the MSI 9800 Pro at newegg for $193, it uses a Radeon XT core so its clocked a bit higher than most 9800 Pro's and you should be able to push that card close to XT speeds.

Thanks for all the feedback, it has been most helpful

I looks like I will be getting the 9800 pro but does the manufacture play a big part or they all the same. I know ATI and MSI has them, any others I should look for before being this card.

BBA, Sapphire, MSI, ASUS, and VisionTek are the most recommended manufacturers. I went with a BBA model myself. You can then mod it with a VGA Silencer and overclock the living shlt out of it. :)
