I need to purchase a replacement dot martix printer for our accounting department. It will be used to print invoices from our AS400. Can I get some suggestions on a high volume one that can handle pringing a lot of invoices?

The current printer is a okidata 320 turbo that is having problems after only 2 years.

I consider Epson to be the king of the Dot Matrix Printers, they practically invented it.

They have 24 and 9 pin printers just for what you are looking for,,
high volume, multiple copy invoices.

Check out their web site..

ok, thanks. Im looking into the FX-890. It looks like it has the same Iseries support as the Okidata 320 turbo.

question for you guys,

why do some businesses use dot matrix printers when some pretty good high volume laser printers are out there?

The only thing I can think of is that ribbon might be cheaper? and the ability to use continous preforated paper?

This IBM Printer was the last "Dot Matrix"/Impact printer we bought at work. (Well it was a previous version of it).

It's fast... but probably overkill compared to the Epson. :)

We need to purchase some add on software for our as400 to be able to print invoices to a laser printer. I don't remember how many thousands of dollars it was. They decided to go with the dot matrix to save $.

High volume lasers are very expensive to purchase and maintain compared to a good solid dot matrix. When output quality is not an issue, the advantages of a laser doesn't mean a whole lot.
