Suggestions for a high-speed (yet affordable) SEND connection...

Hey,

I'm shopping around for a connection that has the highest send speed for the buck. I know it's kinda opposite what people typically desire in a connection, but I'm weird like that I guess ;-) I was thinking cable, although I just hate how it's such a shared bandwidth network. Speed varies a lot on that kind of stuff. ADSL might be an option, but it's typically more expensive to get anything higher than 30k/sec send. SDSL is way too expensive... So are there any other options I have available? A 128download/1024upload would be prime. Or am I just outta luck here? Cheers!

I live in Utah btw, thanx!

Im going to guess that your going to host your site off of it?

Instead of doing it yourself, try colocation. You make the server, and its housed in your ISP's (or whoever is doing it) building, and you use their bandwidth. You could come in whenever and play around with it ect, and would have full access from home. It might not be exactly what your looking for, but it may work.

http://www.avalanchenet.com A little steep but man it is awesome and there ar not really limitations...the there's the fact that they had me up within 10 days of asking for the service...they just rule...they just accepted their OC-3, and I can pull usually 100Kbyte/sec or about one megabit/sec off of most sites...they haul..and their up link is just as fast...e-mail me if you have any questions.

Edit: for hosting they may want a little more. I have an IP that does not change althoug it is assigned through DHCP, and we are co-location hosting through Xmission. needed the fast link for games and to upload and maintain the servers.

Sweet! Gotta love XMission 🙂 I have US West ADSL through XMission right now. I also have Jatocom SDSL through ViaWest (although I'm switching it to XMission when they're ready for it and cancelling the US West DSL).

There's a lot of prices there. How much did the hardware/install cost you, what's the monthly fee, and did you have to sign a service contract? Thanx for the head's up though!

And co-location won't work either. Way too expensive for what I wanna do 🙁

Well...we paid $900...should have been 600 but we needed a 20ft antenna instead of a 10ft..(F'N Spruce trees) monthly it is about $39.99 I signed for a year, you can go month to month but it is $49.99 instead...I had no problem signing for a year, but you definietly have to be tchnically minded and know how to set up a LAN...although they will make it work before they leave, you may want to fudge with it later, I have the PCI card running ICS in my old 300A and it cracks blocks too, you can get an ethernet bridge or access point for more cash...but it was less for me to set up ICS...you should also know that you will want a ground rod near where they place the wire in trough the outside wall before they show, I had to drill my window a second time and run the ground form the lightning arrestor out the window myself since I never got a ground rod ready for them...they cost about $5~20 at home depot...if you have the rod they will ground it for you...here is a screenshot from the speed test at computing central taken 5 mins. ago...keep in mind that they serve businesses and they are crowded now, it gets faster on the weekends...we are also doing a business website, whioch is why the price was not bad for us...and especially since ATT and USWorst have abandoned our neighborhood, and USW would not allow a CLEC (ie, Jato) to get us DSL.

here is a link to the pic...

This was the first time I clicked on the link from this computer, this computer and the ICS comnputer both have the speedguide tweaks loaded.

Edit: This taken from the DSLReports speed tester

** Speed 1132(down)/763(up) kbps **
(At least 22 times faster than a 56k modem)
Finish.

Wow, pretty sweet numbers there 😉 I'll have to think about it. I think somethings wrong with the forums though cuz I've been not receiving a lot of the e-mails saying my subscriptions have updated... That's why it's been a delayed reply. Thanx for the info though!
