For Half Life you could try SvenCoop - its pretty cool to play on your own or even cooperative with a bunch of mates!

They Hunger is an excellent single player mod for Half-Life. I think there was also a They Hunger 2. Both should be listed at any HL fansite, definately at planethalflife.

I second LawBeefaroni with the They Hunger series, which is actually a three part series. I am curretnly playing it and I have to say that it is real good. Another mod made by the same mod maker is the USS Darkstar.

I've downloaded this mode called Chemical Existance, which is supposed to be decent, but I can't get it to work.

A Resident Evil mod is curretnly in progress and should be good.

SvenCoop is decent but not that many people play it and it isn't that fun on your own.
