I was wondering if you guys know of any headphones that would work great for gaming and music as well.....
I cant buy anything off of the internet(I dont have a CC) so I would also like to know where to find headphones in Calgary....

If you have an ultimate electronics, they'll give you the best selection of high end headphones. Look for Sennheiser, or good ol' bose triports, that you can find at best buy.

Are Sennheiser HD570 Symphony Headphones good for surround sound gaming? I know they are good for music....just wondering what people think of it for gaming...

I use Sennheiser 590s for gaming, they sound great. Well, used, I actually think the Bose Triports sound a lot better for much less money. The Sennheisers are the headphones for my amd comp now.

I recently got Sennheiser HD-570s, very good headphones for the price. IMO the price difference between the HD-590s and the HD-570s don't justify the extra $100 CAN. If you need headphones for gaming don't purchase the HD-580s or HD-600s, because a good soundcard just don't have enough power to drive them properly. On the other hand a good soundcard let's the HD-570s or HD-590s really shine.

k thx for all the help guys...I think I'll need to shop around a bit cause futureshop isnt exactly the best place for pricing...thx to all for their help...I'm probably gonna get em this week...

Rather than being at the mercy of local shops, why don't you use a money order to purchase online? You could also get a debit card that acts like a CC. PayPal even has DC's.

do not forget the weird looking KSC-35!!!

well you DO need someone with a CC to buy it. at $30 it beats ANY headphones that all of you mentioned in value. not to mention that it is also lightweight.

check it out at koss.com

trying to pick cans is almost as bad as recommending a monitor; both are highly dependent on personal tastes. Consider these conditions as you look.

do you like phones that completely cover your ear, or just lay over the canal???
will you be listening to music on walkman's or stereo???? some cans need more power then walkman units can give

best recommendation is get to a good stereo store and actually listen to them; bring your own music so you know what it sounds like. As for performance, I love good music and would rather listen to my headphones, then most stereo systems. When gaming i can hear more sound and have better "relationship" to the sound, then with surround sound speakers. More then one friend has been spoiled after i've let them borrow my unit for the weekend.

this is a great place to browse and check out the different types HeadRoom, plus their staff is excellent. For my use i have the Beyerdynamics DT-250-80's and though i have a good sound card with a dedicated headphone jack, i use a headphone amp to help boost the signal and clean up the sound. My kids are all addicted to headphones and the only drawback to the full over-the-ear style, is that they can get warm when the weather is hot (sweaty). But i wouldn't trade 'em for anything.

good luck

altho i agree with Lalakai on personal tastes, i'll throw in my vote for the grado sr60s. i'm really happy with mine. they get used for music movies and gaming and cover all three rather well.

I bought a pair of sennheiser 580s about 6 months ago and I never cease to be impressed with them. Even at a price tag of $200+ they are worth every penny.

Accept nothing less than perfection.

bewarned, you will most like get sucked into the unending cycle of headphone upgraditus if you really want a good pair of headphones.
I have gone through $30 (ksc-35), $100 (beyer dt770), $300 (ath-w1000) in two months.
I will advise you to actually try the headphones out before buying some cheapo headphones.
If you buy a crappy headphones now, you will just end up selling them for a pair of better ones.

Can anyone recommend some good online stores that sell good headphones and ship to Canada or are in Canada? I'm particularly interested in Grados

I also have a pair of Sennheiser HD570s. Contrary to what people here seem to think, they are not that good for music. (at least not rock or rap)

I've used them mainly for their distinct positioning in FPS which I find even Klipsch Promedias can not match. These days they are being used on my digital piano which i strongly suggest, since the built in cabinet speakers on digital pianos are usually pretty bad. They also work very well for spoken audio...but I guess any headphones work for that purpose.

For music usage get the HD580s (think they may have been discontinued.) They are far superior for overall music production but i found them less precise and not as sharp at higher frequencies as compared to the HD570s. And they are not as comfortable for long gaming sessions....and due to their design will probably require an ext. amp.
