Suggestions for a Going-Away-To-College Date

There's this new girl in my Tae Kwon Do class that I've lately developed a little crush on. She's going away to college 5 hrs away in Michigan next week and I'd like to take her on a friendly date. I was thinking of a movie and then maybe a trip to Barnes and Noble. I'd just like her to leave with a good impression of me which is especially important since she plans to rejoin TKD at my school next summer when she's home - and it would really suck if she ditches that plan because of me.

If a movie and bookstore sounds good, what's currently playing that's good for a friendly/non-romantic date? (And a movie with a subtle goodbye theme would be better).

Or do you guys have any other ideas for a date? No fancy restaurants - I'm going to be a poor college freshman too.

First...a warning. Don't date someone who can kick your arse. Just in case things head south. :)

I would take her to a cafe (I think most larger barnes and nobles have one, but I'd go somewhere that didn't emphasize quiet). Talk for a while and let her get interested in knowing you, cuz that's why god created the internet and added email as an afterthought. That way, you also have an opportunity to swap contact info. At the very least you can go to your friends and say in a parodic voice "Yo g, I gots her digits!!". j/k.

As far as a movie, It wouldn't be my choice, but if that's your thing, Girls seem to like Lilo And Stitch for it's cuteness factor...but I don't really know this girl. I'd go bowling or billiards personally, but that's cuz I like billiards and bowling and it'd make me a little looser.

2 cents.

Giving her a great nite of sex will make sure she will remember you, and when she comes back from college... she will come over. :D

I couldn't even remember the girls I took to a movie, nor do I care. It was a movie. A club is a much better idea.... or a good nite of drinking is even better.

actually, I know quite a few girls who can't even remember the last guy they slept with in general, let alone the guy from just before college. I doubt drinking will help memory either.

Besides... he's going to be a freshman ... chances are... he's underage ;-)

I'm not looking to score with this girl. And as like most computer geeks here, I'm socially inept when it comes to dating so I would only make a fool out of myself by going to clubs; can't play pool b/c I never did, except Yahoo Pool; the last time I bowled was years ago when I couldn't lift a bowling ball with one hand, so needless to say, I would probably suck at bowling too; and I don't like drinking.

*Sigh* I was afraid of that. But even if she doesn't remember the movies, I'm sure she'll remember me from Tae Kwon Do.

Just to reiterate, I just want to go on a friendly date - the farthest I would like to go is just semi-passionate kissing because I'm a nice guy (READ: SOCIALLY INEPT).

WTF? you can't play pool or bowl?

Can you do any sport?

Don't ask for advice here as people will advise on what they normally do and that is going to be a lot different to you. As you put it yourself that your socially inept so just go with what you had planned.

YOU DON'T WANT TO BE A NICE GUY! They are 'boring' and complain about girls not wanting a nice guy. Girls just don't want a boring guy and those guys tend to be nice guys. Take the plunge and go to kiss her if she does then great your taking charge and if she doesn't then what the hell next in line. Even on a first date you want to kiss her. Sure if you want something more don't sleep with her on a first date but you got to try to kiss her.
