The recent down time I've experienced with my Samsung Galaxy S3 being repaired by Samsung clued me in to the fact that I really need a back up phone for this type of situation.

What is a decent Android touch screen phone that's kind of like the S3 that I could pick up used on the cheap? I realize the original Galaxy and S2 are two options but I'm not up on what other good phones have come and gone in the last 2 or 3 years.

Basically I'm looking for an Android touch screen phone in the $50 range? Is it doable at that price?

Forgot to mention I'm on Sprint.

finding a dual core 4" for $50 wont likely happen, but if you doubled your price you probably could do it. sprint phones tend to be cheaper for some reason too.

i would look for an EVO 4g sprint phone... single core but has the all the other features you would want. http://www.ebay.com/itm/HTC-EVO-Shi...1113571785?pt=Cell_Phones&hash=item1c32ee71c9 or one without a keyboard- http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sprint-HTC-Evo-4g-phone-/161028591500?pt=Cell_Phones&hash=item257e0d4f8c

or maybe you could play with a windows phone- i didnt realize the arrive is so cheap now.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/HTC-Arrive-...0907726868?pt=Cell_Phones&hash=item460f7f8814

i heard they were good phones...

Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks so much.
The Windows phone looks interesting. I'd like to mess around with one of those anyway.

np. i look at that stuff quite often, because its at the point now that any used android phone with hdmi or hml output is an instant media center, because they have xmbc on android now. its the only real linux solution that plays netflix without a hitch, too.

they also make great stand alone skype phones. go ahead and try to find a stand alone skype-only proprietary pos for $50, it wont happen and even if you could, an android phone destroys it in call quality.

its pretty amazing what you can do with less then $100 these days.

You can probably buy a simple second hand HTC Desire off eBay. I found a couple for £40 incl delivery ($60). It's a decent phone, similar to the Nexus 1 actually.

Thanks but I don't think the Desire will work on Sprint without serious modding.
