suggestions for a budget box or two?

hi--right now i'm running a 2.2 ghz athlon box with 200gb + 80gb/512mb/128mb radeon video/8x dvd+-rw

my goal is to break this down into a cheapo htpc whose main purpose will be playing emulated console games, mp3s, and divx/mpegs, plus a new desktop whose primary purposes will be internet, aim, photoshop, etc (nothing too intensive, but i'd like to do this without any lag).

my requirements for the htpc are pretty simple: video out (obviously), microatx case, and ideally, i'd be able to transfer the ddr, 80gb hd, cpu, and video card.

my requirements for the desktop are also simple (though performance is more important): running vista with no slowdowns, being able to manipulate large files (edit 100mb wav files in goldwave, or large photoshop files, for instance); and down the road i'd like to be able to send video out to my bedroom tv. ideally, i'd like to use my current case (antec w/ 350 watt quiet ps) and the 200gb hd (while adding on an additional 500gb for media).

i guess this question is pretty vague, but do you have any suggestions for mobos, cpus, etc. for my desktop that fall under the "pretty decent, yet good value" umbrella? i don't want to go top of the line b/c i feel like there is a huge drop in value from top of the line, to "still pretty good" ranges.

thanks
